it is sulfur , it is a compound sprayed on grapes to prevent different types of molding and mildew which for some reason occurs alot on grapes!! it is even heavier on wine grapes cuz the stay on the vines even longer!! if you look at a bottle of wine at the label it will say contains sulfites!! unless it is a fully organic wine made with organic grapes!! which then the bottle of wine will cost you triple!! sulfites effect people in different ways , anything from causing sickness to keeing someone up all night to allergic reaction!! but sulfur is not harmful it occurs naturally in the earth and in drinking water, the amount used on grapes is very minimal, personally ive never smelled it on the grapes so im not sure i would eat them, but you may have a very sensitive nose!!!

I know what you are talking about but Im not sure if I would say it smells like sulfer. I dont know what it is, but I personally always wash and dry my grapes before eating and it definatley helps.

Sulfur is organic and even organic grapes smell of sulfur. It is one of the worlds oldest pesticides. Yes I agree it is not pleasant.

Sulfur is used on grapes to protect against black rot. You should be able to clean it off though, if not... go organic.

Your water or soil must be bad. Our grapes have never had that problem.
