Recently, all the lights in my house have started flickering. I did a time test yesterday, and it seems to happen about every 55 seconds. Any ideas why this is happening? Can I fix this easily?
We have recently had 2 power outages due to ice storms. Also, I recently installed an overhead light in my office.......Dont know if either has anything to do with it.

On a worked example in the 16th edition design and verification book Pg12.
It describes the installation of 4 showers, the design current is 8000/230 = 35A to get the total assumed current demand is 100% of the first unit + 100% 2nd unit + 25% 3rd unit + 25% 4th unit. why do we only use 25% on the 3rd and 4th units???

I live on a slope, with drain holes in retaining walls at the bottom of my property to drain the upslope portion of the property. When it rains, water does not flow out, leading me to believe that they are clogged. What is the best way to clean out these drain holes to allow my property to drain water properly.

This is not my 1st time conducting a yard sale. I've been told that I mark things too high. But I figure that people will try to negotiate and I can always go lower, but I can't go higher...

THEREFORE, My main question is to ask for any tips to make better profits or pointers that would be useful to know?

For Example:
Is there a magic number or dollar amount that people like to see? What do you look for in a bargin?
How much is too much? (For good or fair condition items that I just don't want anymore)
Do I mark items for 1/2 the cost that I bought it for? or 1/3?
What are the do's and don'ts?
What makes you walk away without buying anything? (Presentation of items, the prices or just not relating to anything for sale?)
How to determine if you should donate, sell or throw away something?

I removed an old light fixture which is connected to only 1 switch. The cable into the fixture's electrical box had 4 wires (black, white, red, and a bare copper wire). The old light fixture had 3 wires (black, white and green). The old light was wired like this: Black (box) to black (old fixture), white (box) to white (old fixture), red (box) to green (old fixture).

My new light fixture has only 2 wires, and a bare ground (black, white and ground). I assumed the green wire in the old light fixture was the ground. So I first wired the new light fixture's ground into the red wire (as well as black to black, and white to white). When I turned the circuit on, the light was on, even though the switch for the light was off. When I turned the switch on, it blew the fuse.

Next I left the red wire unconnected, white to white, black to black, connected the ground to the box. Result: light on even though switch was off, switch did not turn light on or off.

Thanks for your help.

Thanks to all those who posted useful advice to my first question. I thought maybe some additional infromation would be useful. I am trying to replace the room thermostat for my central heating as the current one doesn't function, I suspect this is due to a break in the wire between boiler and stat. My origianl question was where does the Thermostat wire too, I have an apollo thorn EMI boiler and the timer programer is a switchmaster 400 ( pull on/off dial ). There are three wires running into the switchmaster, the power and two others I assume the pump feed and boiler. I have a wiring diagram for the boiler but the room stat is not on it, unless it looks like something other the usual Honeywell dial Room thermostat.
Someone mentioned a digital thermostat, would that be too advanced for my system, I know it's not the most uptodate boiler in the world, but it still works.
Thanks for any advice,
EP

4 underground pipes going to/from the equipment. All I want now is to install a PVC shut-off valve in each pipe. Here's my gameplan. Turn off power; close valve at the equipment where water circulates to equipment; bleed the air from filter tank; pull the sweep out of the pool; remove skimmer basket and shove towels down both holes; plug off the 3 water outlets around the top of the pool; put a rubber mat over the top of the main drain in the bottom of the pool; cut each pipe and quickly insert towels to control water; install PVC shut-off valve (in on position) approximately 10' from pool equipment using wet/dry PVC cement (end of towels will already be threaded thru valve opening); pull out towles from pipe through opened valve; close valve; redo pipe connection on equipment side of valve using a compression fitting joining the two pieces of cut PVC pipe; turn on valve. Now I can work on moving the equipment later by shutting off valves. Any comments from the experts out there?
