I need to plug my sump pump in the basement but the only electrical outlet available is a 2 prong that comes out of a lighting fixture. This pump needs a 3 prong outlet to be grounded. If i was to buy that little 2 prong adapter to hook into the lighting fixture, where can i run a ground wire too??I was told i can run a wire to the adapter and clamp it too some copper water lines in the basement. Is this safe??Will it work?Remember running a whole new electrical line for a 3 prong outlet is NOT a possibility.Thanks.

A guy made an offer to buy my house but says it looks like it has subsidence. He pointed out a 0.25 inch gap between the grouting on my tiles and my skirting board. I thought the grouting was just old (10 years) I have no trees near the house. There are no cracks in the walls at all and the skirting boards are flush. The house is about 10 years old and in an area where there are peat bogs? Could he be right?

there's two broken steps -- it's a half flight leading to an unfinished basement, and it's the original (1928) steps.

So I'm thinking about getting this appartment downtown and its is great. Love the floor plan, the finishes, the price. One thing bother me though. The wall that my bed would be up against is the common wall between me and the appartment next to me. Now, this normally wouldn't bother me, but the room on the other side of my bed's wall is the bathroom, and to make matters worse its the wall that the other person's toliet is on. So here's my concern, I am afraid that I will be spending all this money a month for a great place, but evey time my neighbor goes to the bathroom, I will not only hear the flushing, but him or her peeing. yuck. I can't really put the bed anywhere else becasue its a loft and this is the little "nook" part of the space where the bed goes. I have never been in an appartment before, always rented a home. What do you guys think, am I being paranoid? Just seems like being that close to another person's toilet is gross.
Thanks

Okay so I move into an house w/ 2 acres in NC and the first thing I want to do is plant a huge vegetable garden. Huge problem, the thought of a snake terrifies me. Beyond our grassy patch of yard is wooded area covered w/ under brush. I have a 9 yr. old who wants to play back there and a baby turning 1 that I was hoping would spend time with mommy planting and caring for the garden. To make matters worse, I always imagined a man made pond too. It seems like I am creating the perfect enviornment for snakes. I am willing to try anything if it will keep them out of the yard? I need to know what really WORKS. What can I do to have peace of mind and allow my little ones to enjoy the yard too?

Well, my husband was trying to be helpful when he did the laundry, BUT he put a pair of my white pants in with blue jeans! And you can imagine what happened. I've never had to bleach anything before. Will it damage tha pants or should I bring them to a dry cleaner? They are nice pants. 95% cotton and 5% spandex. The inner part is lined but I do not know the material. Thanks!

Spring has started here in South East London. Early blossoms, catkins and buds on trees turning green and ready to burst into leaf. Also, quite a lot of daffodils.

I am a landscaper, but I do have questions myself from time to time, and I have just been getting a bunch of total hogwash answers from people. Just totally untrue, regarding herbacides and pruning, etc.!

just curious, how many people reading this question are expereinced gardeners??

We live in a council property and they took on a new repairs contractor, Inspace Partnerships in November 2006, 5 year contract. Since then, the work that has needed to be done has been a nightmare. To cut a long and painful story short, today when they reattached the radiator in the bathroom, they screwed straight through the wall, directly next to my 1 year olds cot, level with her head - SHE WAS IN THERE TRYING TO HAVE A NAP! The holes are 4 inch in diameter, they've left rubble everywhere. It was lucky that the screwdriver didn't kill or hurt her.
These contractors have proven they are consistantly incompetent, the only few decent workers being agency and I have very good reasons not to want them in my house. They cause more damage than they correct and the council aren't interested. "Teething problems" apparently. The management at Inspace only seem to be interested in brushing stuff under the carpet too. Is there anything I can legally do about it?
