Some tell me to tarp it over. Others tell me to just leave it exposed, but is all the extreme cold and snow going to affect its performance this spring???

Stain happened 2 weeks ago. We're supposed to get snow in 2 days, plus its going to get really cold. Basically, this means I won't be able to do anything about it for some time ...

On appliances it is $129 each for 4 years for a fridge and stove, and $99 for dishwasher. Is $357 worth it for 3 appliances?

Costs like $230 for a 32" LCD TV for 2 years warranty. Is that worth it?

I thought this was a flower so I let it grow in the garden when I moved into my house and it has taken over the flower beds, and lawn (in shady spots where the grass wasn't healthy to begin with). The root is white and thin like a hair and goes down about 1.5 feet, then below that there is a huge parsnip-like root (so if you pull it the thin part breaks and you're left with the big root that grows back at least two plants!). Any ideas what this is and how to kill it (it is mixed in with my perrenials). The pic is of it as a mature plant flowering: http://i158.photobucket.com/albums/t109/lilith984/Weed.jpg

However, the roof is flat, and I may need dormers to adjust head room. right now, the open to the attic is like ...stairs and then a push in the ceiling to get in. I would like to add stairs. Does anyone know what the approx. price for renovating an attice would be, or is that something I can do myself. Any web cites for reference?

I know, I know ... this is a question only I can answer, but I'm looking for some things to think about as I make my decision. Here are the facts:

1. my current house is not just too small, it has all sorts of problems, most of them because the original construction was shoddy (1950s), and there has been a lot of work (including additions) done by do-it-yourselfers who couldn't do it themselves.

2. some of the problems are actually safety issues

3. I live on a highly desirable piece of property in terms of location (access to highways and walking distance to public transit)

4. I try really hard to be an environmentalist. I don't think all of these mcmansion communities are great (but secretly want one).

5. I live in a highly built-up area where tracts of land are scarce and expensive.

This question is really big for me and causing me a lot of stress at the moment. What questions should I ask myself? What is generally the most economical option (is it remodel?)?

These are 240v downlighter bulbs but I cannot find out why there are two types and what they are used for. I also cannot see any difference in the bulbs just looking at them.

My house lies in a midst of pines and the windows on the outside are coated with something I almost think is pine sap. It's not thick but is impossible to remove using conventional methods. I really can't afford to replace my windows right now. Any ideas?

the nightlight in my kids' bedroom is shining more brightly than it did before. It's bright enough to read by now! It's a standard 7.5W bulb (240V AC) plugged into a powerboard which is plugged into the wall. I did nothing but just one night it was shining more brightly.

Building a plaster strip wrapped fairy tale looking tree. I'm building a small wire meshed tree about 2 ft tall. Inside it is half an oat meal box. The mesh will be shaped into the body of a gnarled tree much like you would see in a fairy glen in a disney cartoon. The mesh is going to be wrapped with strips of plaster covered cloth I bought from Michael's craft store. The tree will be painted and accented but for the life of me, I can't think what I should use for the leaves. I thought about clipping the ends of thick yarn and gluing them in place. I thought about using small oblong beads and glueing them in place, but nothing jumps out at me. The tree is a valentines day box for my daughter's party. The parents have to make them. My daughter is almost 4 yrs old and she really likes disney fairies merchandise like tinker bell. I'm wanting the tree to be built well enough to win, but durable enough she can include it with her other toys. Any ideas people?
