Spray it with water first to soften it and then use a nonflexable scraper and it should come right off. Be sure to put down a floor/furniture covering and to wear old clothes and hair covering. It is not exactly a beautifing adventure.

The residue can be removed with water and rag/sponge. You may need to sand lightly before priming and painting.

I used to have a popcorn ceiling, and after a week of looking for products to get rid of it I finally resorted to scraping it off. Scraping works okay, but it leaves a huge mess.

Yes you can scrape it off with a blade, but the sharp edge of a trowel works alot better. Put it on an extension pole. DO NOT SPRAY WATER ON YOUR CEILING!! This will create a way bigger problem than you can imagine. The sheetrock (drywall, wallboard) will become soft and start to sag, plus its easy to gouge when removing the popcorn texture.

We have popcorn ceilings that we absolutely HATE! We found out that they contain asbestos. Houses built before 1977 that have popcorn ceilings likely contain asbestos. It would cost us a fortune to have them removed. Make sure that your ceilings do not contain asbestos before removing them.

Use a garden sprayer with water and scrape it off easily. It's so messy though you may want to hire someone. Then you have to texture before you paint, not difficult but messy and time consuming.

You can scrape it, then smooth it or you can just smooth over it, or you can replace the sheet rock on you ceiling altogether.

yes.....it's best to lightly spray with water first.....and cover everything below, because you will have an awful mess....

when you are finished, you will have to skimcoat the ceiling, sand and paint.

not a job for beginners........

yeah, you can scrape it, then sand it to make it even smoother, but expect a sore neck and shoulder.

I think you just smooth it down and then paste over it.
