what types and kinds of plantations would be used for a mediteranean garden?

i warm looking garden with sands and deserty feel..
besides cactus what would complete the look

Annuals----
For red flower color use:red geranium, red sunflower,red salvia, red impatiens(shade only), red dahlia, red zinnia.
For red flowered vines use: morning glory "scarlet o'hara", red sweet pea(beautiful fragrance)

For yellow flowers use: sunflowers, marigold, calendula, rudbeckia, yellow zinnia, yellow dahlia, yellow datura (angels trumpet), yellow tuberous begonia (shade only).

Perennials-----
red: red lilies, red peonies, red tulips, poppies
yellow: Euphorbia polychroma (cushion spurge), yellow lilies, yellow tulips, daffodils, helenium, heliopsis, goldenrod, perennial allysum , yellow evening primrose, yellow flowered sedums, perennial rudbeckias( "herbstone" is a 7 foot giant with yellow daisies), Ligularia (for shade only), coreopsis.
