gutter part that is directly over my front door kind of pours down right there. I can see that the gutter is connected right there but I don't know what to do to make the rain water just keep flowing to the end of it. Any ideas? Thanks.

I would say that either your gutter or downspout has a blockage and the water is not draining. Clean then out and barring a hole of some sort in the gutter above the door, everything should be fine. Gutter and downspout cleaning should be done at least once a year to prevent vegetation build up in the drainage system. To assist in preventing downspout blockage, there is a screen type of product which fits into the gutter where the downspout attaches which will prevent leaves and twigs from entering the downspout and make the annual cleaning that much easier.

By the way, after cleaning, you can test your system by either using a garden hose or bucket of water into the gutter and watching to see if it drains properly and quickly. If it doesn't and an obstruction is not readily apparent, you may have to disassemble the downspout to clear it with a broom handle or something similar.

First, check to make sure the gutter isn't sagging there. Second, make sure the gutter isn't full of trash and this is the reason it is overflowing. Then have someone install a piece of flashing that is higher than the gutter..they can just screw it on to the outer edge. It will look like an "L". This will act like an over-flow protector and keep the water off your head. You could go to the trouble of installing a piece of metal to the roof to channel the water away from the door, but, if there is no sag, and it's just a matter of too much water for the gutter this should work.

Hi-
Is the gutter clogged by debris? If so, this would prevent the water from flowing to the end. Another possible problem is that the spot that is overflowing is the lowest part on the gutter. If so, you would need to raise this part, or lower the other parts, so the gutter can drain. The last idea is that you just have a leak there, and you need to patch it with a sealant. Go to a good hardware store, and they can set you up with the right kind of sealant.

The gutter must be near level or slant slightly towards the drain. A low spot by the door is bad.

you can get a gutter seal (basicly glue) to seal the gutter seam.
Home Depot or most any hardware store.
