I was given the safe & the combination. The door is open & the plunger is out so the door will not close. The safe sat around at the last owners place & they can't quite remember the sequence to operate it. The lock itself is a sargent.

I just moved into an older home in Vallejo, CA. When I take my dog out at night, I see a few of these black bugs, but I don't think they are cockroaches. They are more narrow-bodied and they look almost like beetles. Can anybody tell me what they are...My fiance says they are june bugs and I shouldn't be worried, but I'm afraid they might be cockroaches and that grosses me out!

Everything I read about ceiling fans in the winter are for homes with the registers up towards the ceiling. What about in homes where the registers are closer to the floor?

I have purchased a home with a wood burning stove in the living room. It sits in a corner. The corner is brick on the floor under the stove and all the way up to the ceiling. The insurance company is coming to inspect the stove this week for safety, but it is new and I am not too concerned about the safety the way it is now. It is fairly clean and looks new. The previous owner put trim up at the top next to the ceiling, but did not paint it. Is it safe to paint? If so, is their a certain type that is best to use? We had a stove in our family room when I was a child, but it vented into the fireplace, so I have no experience with this situation. What advice can you give me about using the stove? If you are going to say something stupid like sell the house, go answer another question.

It's easy to find 24-hour box timers that plug into a wall outlet. However, I want one for a space in my home which is exposed to the eye, and a big box with a dial will be pretty ugly. Isn't there a wall outlet / receptable out there which can be mounted in-wall (replacing the existing plug outlet) which incorporates a 24-hour timer? There are plenty of light switches out there which have timers now, but I can't find an in-wall outlet. Can anyone else find one for sale?

I was cooking something in the kitchen just a bit ago, when I heard a loud explosion. I looked in the kitchen and it was on fire. I ran to my computer as it spread quickly into my living room. I wasn't sure what I should do, so I went on here to get some help.

Help?

I fill my kerosene heater up 2 or three times a week and I always seem to get some on my hands and it stinks. Does anyone know what works to get rid of the smell. Soap and water doesn't do much.

My Gas water heater looks and acts like it's working just fine although when it comes to taking a shower the water is only hot or even warm for only about 3 min. then the water get's colder but never as cold as water from the cold tap. The owner has had someone over twice to look at it and they say it's working just fine. I've seen the tank and it's a full size. Even a smaller tank should provide more then 5 min. of hot water out of the facete or the shower head.
Has anyone ever had anything like this happen and what should I tell the landloard to get them to take care of this problem?

Still taking cold showers,
Thanks.
