Went to our local spa store to purchase something to lower the ph level in our hot tub. The salesman told us that they were out and he suggested using baking soda instead. Will this be safe for the hot tub and if so, how much to use?

I want to repaint my bedroom walls. At the moment it's all white, and just plain dull and lots of the paint has peeled off, making it look really mouldy. If I decide to repaint the walls using a different color, do I need to peel off the old paint, and then only proceed with the new coating... or are there any other processes involved before doing this? Thanks in advance.

Sometimes I go outside and use the sun and a magnifying glass to focus tremendous amounts of light onto small areas, lighting ants on fire. If I get them hot enough, they start to smoke and pop.

a DIY remodeling project - I yanked out a nasty old range-top microwave - and in doing so noted the wire was direct wired to the wiring in the wall -

in a pinch i just shut-off the fuse, undid the splices in the three wires, separately, and replaced the wire-cap twist things and taped them on a bit with black elec. tape

I'm no electrician... but this seems like a no-brainer (using all due caution of course...)

now the question- I mean, i assume the three wires are the +/-/ground... black ground- white and whatever-

I believe I have the know-how to just go to the hardware store and get a friggin outlet and just wire the thing- i've wired lamps, simple things... I weld, woodwork, sculpt - i know how things work ya know

whatdy'a say?

any suggested online tutelage?

I have an area in my tiny apartment reserved for dining and living room, there is no room in the kitchen to eat in so I need space for sofa as well as a table and 2 chairs. One wall has wall to wall windows, the opposite wall to that is completely open to the hallway. The area measures 12 by 14 (12 feet on the windows side). Any ideas for arrangement of furniture?

My roommate poured paint thinner into her clogged drain. The drain is still clogged, and as such the paint thinner hasn't gone away and is stinking up the house. Is there any way to neutralize the smell until we get someone to clear the clog?

I'm looking to get a new bed that I plan to sleep on for at least...the next four years. I have a relatively small bedroom, and I would also like to add some seating space. I was looking at a futon/sofa-bed so I could kill two birds with one stone. My problem is is that on the past futons I've been on, they have been much squishier than a regular mattress and they don't seem like they would be good on my back if I slept on them continuously. Are there any Futons/sofa Beds with two mattresses? For example, when it is in the couch set up, you would sit on one mattress and the other one would support your back, while on the bed set up, the two mattresses would lay together creating one queen or full size mattress. I need to find one like that because that would solve my mattress-firmness problem. Buying a couch and a bed is not an option. Thanks!

My cold water tap makes a loud noise and vibrates when it's turned on at low volume. However, when I turn it on more, there's a point at which the noise stops and there is no more vibration. It's annoying because I can't use my cold water at low volume (i.e. when it isn't coming out of the faucet really fast). I don't have any plumbing experience, but is there a fix for someone with household tools (wrench, screwdriver, hammer, etc.).
