Sometimes I go outside and use the sun and a magnifying glass to focus tremendous amounts of light onto small areas, lighting ants on fire. If I get them hot enough, they start to smoke and pop.

All life is precious and connected. You and those ants are one. While you do not feel the anguish of the ants as they incinerate, the law of Karma will demand you pay your debt to the universe.
You will suffer failure, defeat, poverty, heartbreak, and sorrow until the debt is paid in full. It cannot be stopped.

I am not saying this to judge you. I say it to warn so you can stop torturing and killing ants. Do what you can to help the ant community.

You will find your purpose and your strength when you see that you are in a relationship with all other living things; and that you are powerful, purposeful, and peaceful when you serve in some capacity.

The flow of reality is miraculous because invisible emptiness gets transformed into the brilliant orange of a butterfly's wing, or the massive solidity of a mountain- without any effort at all. This unseen power is sacred and mystic, but present all the time. Even in ants.

Your real problem is that you've got nothing better to do. I absolutely can't believe someone can sit around all day smoking ants.
As far as some other answers go about evil....
It's interesting scientifically to experiment but if you just continue to do it for amusement, you're a possible sadist. You should think about that. Still I'ld bet these same prople think nothing of destroying whole colonies at a time if they get in the least bit in their way.
AS long as you are satisfied with one ant at a time, I doubt you will get in much trouble or make enough impact on the earth community to qualify as evil.
Remember though, evil is in the heart as much as in any act. Your acts and your heart require effort and thought to be free of evil. Even thoughtlessness may result in evil. Think about posing this Q in religion and spirituality catagory. The Buddhists will be all over you.

are these ants a bother?if so there are so many better ways of elimination, sprays, dusting powders with fatal results,to the ants ofcourse;various baits are also on the market. But if it is the process of torture that has a fulfilling effect on you, then the problem lies with you & not the ants, seek help right away.

Sounds as if you are enjoying this activity. I wouldn't call it evil but I would certainly say you have a serious problem inflicting pain for enjoyment. I'd get myself some counciling PRONTO!!

if you receive some great pleasure out of torturing ants, seek psychiatric help.

otherwise, its not "evil" until you go the serial killer route.

In my opinion it is wrong to purposefully kill anything that you are not going to eat or that hasnt threatened you.
