I need to know if 2" X 10" joists will work.
I recently bought a new home, and on the property is an outbuilding which measures (inside)
28'8" wide, 72'3" long and floor to where the ceiling would be (the rafters) 25'10". I want to make a second floor, but maintain the clear span on the main floor. Will 2" X 10" joists be sufficient for the almost 29' span?

We are considering using a West Bend 100 cup coffeemaker for this at our church. West Bend says it will void the warranty. Why is this use problematic?

I rent a house and the smoke detector goes off when we open the bathroom door and let out the steam after a shower. Right now we've just taken the smoke detector out because it wakes everyone up in the morning. We talked to the property management company about this and they keep replacing the detectors with presumably the same crappy ones. What should we do?

I've tried, sound waves, poison pellets, stuff on lawn to get rid of grubs, mothballs, traps. The little critters are a whole lot more persistant and smarter then me. Basically I'm about ready to give up and raise the white flag. Is there a miracle cure out there. No sense on answering if you suggest any of the above.

I asked a couple of weeks ago about a water heater with rusty water. The water is a rusty orange color when you only turn on the hot water. It is clear with cold. Recommendations from this board and friends suggested we replace our water heater. My husband and I replaced the hot water heater last night. However the water is still orange. Will this take a bit to flush out the pipes before the water runs clear? We noticed the rusty water about a month ago-not sure how much build up there is. We have a water softener, there is no odor to the water, and our neighbors do not have this problem. The house is 5 years old. Any suggestions would be helpful. Thanks!

I have a very large amount of rough cut lumber, properly stacked, and stored. I was wondering who would be interested in buying it, and what is it worth. It is mostly oak, maple, and cherry!

The new room I am moving into has gorgeous Edwardian woodwork throughout, giant wood & glass cabinets, white plaster walls (I'd like to paint them light powder blue) and very dark, chocolate brown beams on the ceiling wainscoting and chair rails for the bottom half of the room. The carpet is light tan and will be covered up with rugs. But should I go with matching choc. brown furniture? The bed frame in the room is black iron, matte finish. I'd like to keep as much of the original details in the room as the focal point but find a more modern color scheme for the bedding and accessories. I'm stuck on what color to go with for the furniture. The room is dark so a little bright accent here & there would help. Any ideas?
