The dryer has a belt that goes around the tub at the back that's against the wall. This belt could have came off or broken. If it has some age I would guess that it has broken. They're not hard to put on. When you unhook the dryer and get it out where you can take the screws off the back cover, you'll probably see the problem. These belts can be purchased at a repair shop.

Does your dryer make a grinding noise when it should tumble? If so the bearings could be spent. However if it makes no noise the problem could be a belt. If you put a heavy load into the dryer, say quilts bedding or such it could cause the load to have stopped the dryer from spinning and the belt could have burnt , if you contact a Whirlpool dealer on line or in your area they could tell you the cost of a belt. You didn't say how old your dryer is. If it is older don't put alot of money into new bearings..find a newer used dryer. Belts are less expensive and easy to install.

Your dryer has a belt just like a fan belt on a vehicle. Simply go to an appliance parts store and they more than likely carry these in stock. Take the back of the dryer off and the old belt should be right there in plain view. Simple repair.

go on line and order the belt and roller kit for your model. it will cost about $30.00 and has all of the parts you'll need to replace. the kit comes with instructions on how to change the belt and rollers and the tensioner that keeps the belt tight. it's a good deal and when you are done it will work like new. good luck and happy holidays!! you do the replacement of the belt from the front on the newer dryers everyone!!!

It sounds like you have a bad heating element. Sometimes they break and fuse themselves to the dry housing. They will still give off a partial heat, You are only operating that part on 110, the hot lead to neutral. Thermostates can also go bad, as the timer and there is also a switch on the motor that kicks the heating element in once it reaches a certain speed. I have also seen the cartridge fuses read 110 or 220 oacross both of them and once you applied a load to it the voltage dropped to zero.
