We are considering using a West Bend 100 cup coffeemaker for this at our church. West Bend says it will void the warranty. Why is this use problematic?

Because the booze does not react well in metal. Also, old coffee tastes could affect it.

And West Bend knows now you are not making it to make coffee; which is what their machine is for.

how about using a slow cooker? ceramic bowl should be able to handle the good stuff!! i would not use a chaffing dish or any other open flame or you might void "your" warranty!! heehee. good luck and happy holidays!!!
