I am looking to change my 'super ancient' hot water furnace. My house has two bedroom and 5 radiators. It is about 2150 sq feet. The furnace has modern connections per code, but has that old water tank hanging above it. I am in the process of calling companies, but I wanted to know what price ranges I should expect to pay for the boiler and total installation and what kinds of things I should ask so that I look like I know what I am talking about. I live in the NE United States.

Moved into a rented property 2 months ago. Sinve movin in I noticed bad cases of mould & damp.Contacted landlord within 2 wks of movin in. Landlord got a surveyour out who didnt do a meter reading on all the rooms & the results came back that there was nothin wrong eventhough the wall in the living room was soaking.

Landlord sent a family member round to plaster the outside wall - botch job!!!

Had 2 contact the landlord 2 wks later as the conditions got worse. Was movin clothes from a cupboard when I noticed some at the back of the cupboard were crawling in mould - £50 coat, £120 boots.Checked other rooms & realised the study was crawlin with MOULD. Some of my furniture ruined due 2 mould.

Informed andlord we are movin out as it is unfit to live in. Came home today from shop & found 2 men in the house - just let themselves in! scrappin all the mould and damp of the walls in the study - didnt cover any of my belongings. Couldnt believe it. What would you do?

My apartment is freezing cold, and I hope it's because I'm not using my radiator correctly. There's a valve on the side that one "opens," meaning that one turns is to open it and turns it to close it. My question is: should the valve be opened or closed in order to heat my apartment?
