neighbor&my bedroom window is 20 ft. from this noise of a power tool that is on a timer to come on every hour during the night.May be a generator or something of that sort.The noise is like an alarm clock going off every hour or less.In their garage this moter noise just started to be consistant,where before only for day use & at most 2 or 3 hours at a time. What should I do about? --can't sleep reg.hours.Who should I report this to or confront them & what if they say will continue? HELP Please !

Sounds like an air compressor accidentally left on. As the pressure goes down(from a leaky air hose), it pumps back up automatically. It can take an hour for this cycle to happen. It is possible that the owner doesn't even know it was left on. I'm sure they would appreciate you alerting them, as it will save them a big electric bill.

You will need to check with the authorities in your area with respect to local ordinances relative to "noise" pollution. Many areas have implemented restricted hours for tasks such as construction, and there may well be a decibel level allowed during specific hours where you live. Often, it is just a matter of common sense and sadly, the police may be necessary to enforce.

Most places have a noise ordinance. Speak to them first and tell them it is annoying and you are not getting any sleepl If it continues,, call you local police and ask what the noise law is in your area. In ours, we can't make any unnessary noise between 11pm and 5 am. Check it out. And sweet dreams.
