i own a house built in the late 1890's and am curious as to what kind of stove pipe, or posibly chimney, would have been used when the house was first built, and would there have been a kitchen, or would they have cooked on the stove?

I have a friend who is searching for her birth mother. We have many documents, however, her mother's maiden name is coved by permanent black ink. Is there a way to disolve or remove the black ink with out damaging the the typewritten orginal document; in other words preserving the valuable information underneath?

I am thinking of remodeling our bathroom, and we have wall tile and grout. Its hard to clean and it always looks yucky to me. I'm wondering what you all recommend. A fiberglass shower, stone with fewer grout lines, or is there some kind of material that looks like tile, but is easier to clean? Tell me what you think. Thanks!!

I am curious if there is a way to figure how much it would be to build a home without the labor. Every sight I search shows the national average cost for home building but they throw in the national labor wage. How do I figure it out?

i live in a 4 bedroom house in which only 2 are occupied. we usually just turn on the heater overnight before going to bed because it gets cold and so that it's not freezing when we wake up. would it be more cost effective to get 2 portable heaters than to turn on the central heater overnight?

I have a GE side by side fridge with a water and ice dispenser in the door.

Today, for no apparent reason, the water dispenser quit working.

All the fittings seem fine. The water to the fridge is turned on. I removed the water filter and tried the water dispenser and water wasn't even coming out of where the filter is (actually, it sometimes came out a drop at a time).

It sounds like the pump is trying to pump water through.

My wife said she turned the freezer colder (6 out of 10, was at 5 out of 10). Other than that, nothing changed.

Any ideas?

I just purchased a front load washing machine and I noticed that when I fill the dispenser with soap, softener and bleach as indicated, the softener disappears right away although the washing cycle has not even begun. Does your machine do the same or is there something wrong with mine?

There is this mouse in my apartment, and now he's eating stuff from my kitchen in obvious and disgusting ways. I've tried poison packets and glue traps but it's not working...any suggestions?

I need a simple back of the envelope estimating guideline for cost to wire a house. I understand that much depends on number of outlets lights, etc. but I'm looking for basic build a 2200 ft2 home home how much should the electrical cost in either percenmt of toatl cost or in $/ft2. +or - 25% is fine.

I plugged in my computer and the electrical socket sparked and then there was no power from that outlet. The breaker never tripped so I'm guessing that it short circuited and I'll have to replace the socket. Do you think the damage is more severe? or should taht be enough?

Thanks!

We tried Propane last year and the cost was out-rageous. This year we are trying kerosene heaters, but it is still somewhat costly, even though not as much. I would appreciate any and all suggestions.
