I have a GE side by side fridge with a water and ice dispenser in the door.

Today, for no apparent reason, the water dispenser quit working.

All the fittings seem fine. The water to the fridge is turned on. I removed the water filter and tried the water dispenser and water wasn't even coming out of where the filter is (actually, it sometimes came out a drop at a time).

It sounds like the pump is trying to pump water through.

My wife said she turned the freezer colder (6 out of 10, was at 5 out of 10). Other than that, nothing changed.

Any ideas?

The filter is about 1 week old. I even tried to use the platic piece that bypasses the filter. I don't think the filter is the issue.

It sounds like the line is clogged. The refrigerator water lines are often white or clear. Pull out the refrigerator and see if you can determine if something is lodged in the line. If a determination can not be made, turn off the water (at the wall), take the water line off, and take it to a local hardware store. Someone there might be able to help you.

Good luck.

My opinion is that ice has formed around the door dispenser area. You could also have kinked or pinched line, either outside or inside. These lines are made of plastic tubing. Sometimes the electrical switch may have had water drip on it and rusted it. Check that also. I have a GE same model. Have you changed the water filter, a plugged filter will cause this big time. I have a soft water system in my home, so my filter doesn't need to be changed for 5 yrs. Every year for normal water source change the filter. Also blow out the dust and dirt under the fridge and condenser coils and fan about once a year. This should keep your fridge working for many years to come. Good Luck.

I am not 100% sure but we had an issue this week with our water dispenser as well. My husband put the filter in then took it out and put it back in causing an air bubble in the fridge (tubes) which caused the water to trickle out so slow I thought I'd die of thirst.

Also, you can check for a kink in the water tube, that could be a reason as well. Good Luck!

you may want to check the water inlet valve, they tend to get clogged sometimes. it should be a blue plastic part with two knobs on one side, hot and cold. a little bit of clr or even bleach/water allowed to sit for a minute will clear out debris with a nice rinse. a toothpick may help encourage stubborn particles.
its worth a shot

Is the ice maker still working? The same water supply feeds both. If you are not making ice, the problem is in the supply, strainer or the electric valve is defective.

Sounds like it's time to change the filter.
