very safe unless there is a leak...you would smell a leak, if you ever do, leave house immediatly and call utilities company, or 911...it is rare.

VERY safe - the vast majority (80-90%) of British homes use natural gas for heating & cooking - it's cheaper & cleaner than oil & cheaper than electricity (in the UK).
Keep the applicances well maintained & serviced & you'll never look back !
P.S. I worked for British Gas from 1982-1993 (they sold most of the natural Gas in the UK, before being split up by the idiot in Downing Street).

As mentioned above, very safe if the furnace or stove is properly maintained and has no leaks. Natural gas has no smell, so a stink is added (onion or garlic derivitive) so you can smell it.

If you think there is a leak, leave the house right away. Dont use your home phone to call 911, dont turn on/off any light switches. Any little spark could cause an explosion. Use your neighbors phone or your cell phone.
