The glue on my sink skirt sucks. Does anyone know a good adhesive to stick a sink skirt (thin plastic) onto a ceramic sink? I have tried velcro and some other elmer's like junk. What will work on these two substances, it really looks nice when on. Thanks.

I have a ventless fireplace(also called a ventless gas log heater) in my livingroom. The way it is set up, there is a clamp that props open the flue about 1/2 inch. The first time we ran it we immediately got a strong gas odor that filled the whole house. The gas man came out when I reported the smell and he said the odor is normal a by-product of gas burning and I should run the fireplace with the flue closed. But the odor gives us a headache so we run it with the flue completely open ..odor is gone but we get no heat out of it at all. What is he talking about when he says the gas odor is normal..this just doesnt seem right even though he had the co2 wand out and did not detect anything... and running it with the flue closed that really doesnt seem right!!!

help

Concerned Daniel.

Hi,

We are looking to buy a new house. My husband is "in love" with this one place and he doesn't want to let go.
But I wanted to ask important questions that bother me:
1. Regarding the basement: The house is 3 years old and I see small and kind of insignificant looking cracks in the floor of the basement. THe realestate agent says that this is the foundation "settling in" and every basement has them. And my husband agrees wth him, but I was thinking: This house is only 3 years old so what if these small cosmetic cracks become more significant in 20 years?
2. How would I know that there was ever a water problem in the basement? Is there a way to check? Is there a way to know that for sure this basement was always dry, and will stay that way?
3. My husband found a crack in the foundation outside. He says a crack in the foundation can be fixed Is this true? Is this a significant fix ?

Thank you

We have a flat roof, which needs replacing. one quote has included the possibility of insulating the roof as part of that, by laying insulation on top of the roof, but we're wondering whether it might be better/cheaper to do it from within by taking ceilings down. thanks

The old tiles are coming of nicely, but all the mortar stays on the wall. Should I try to get it all off (how?) or maybe leave in on and put the new mortar and tiles on top ?

I have recently discovered the house I rent has two stop taps in the bathroom, where the rising main forks off in two directions, now I have found that one tap is our water supply, the other stoptap cuts of the neighbours (I live in #52 they are in 52A) Is this legal - should two buildings be connected to one service supply and should we be able to cut off the neighbours supply?

I have a le creuset spatula that smells of food no matter how much i clean it. Any ideas how to get rid of this? The smell does not appear to transfer to food but its still off putting nonetheless.

My washing machine drain pipe is like the one under my sink. Its not just a straight pipe, it has that trap thing on it, and for some reason, it keeps getting clogged. I rented a drain snake last spring and managed to pull w glob of thread/twine up out of the drain.
Once again my washing machine drain pipe is clogged and running water all over the floor. Its like a swimming pool in my utility room. My dad rigged everything in this house and the washing machine drain goes into a concrete floor, but has one of those trap looking things on it. Is that supposed to be there? Dad did the best he could, but some of the things he rigged have cost me a fortune to fix right. Any suggestions on how to get this pipe to stop clogging. I already stuck a drain snake into the pipe but it is getting hung up in the trap or whatever you call that squiggly pipe and I cannot get it unclogged.I think I may have to hire a plumber today or hang the hose out the window to drain the washer. Help!
