as for the year it was built--if the house has the original toilets look under the top lid on the back part of the toilet, ask neighbors or those who have been in the area for a long time about the house's history, some places have websites and the year of the house is in the info or go to the courthouse as taxes paid, value, sales, etc should be public knowledge

You can find it on the Internet very easily with the county assessor.

Type in the (County Name)Assessor-General Parcel Info.

From there you will be able to go to the street address. Most times there will be photos and a floor layout minus walls but with living space square footage. Also will include any liens against the house and who has owned it over the years and if it had ever been defaulted upon.

From there you can take the names of the owners and track them through the county registers office.

you could try to start at the town hall or city hall of the state you are buying the house in. I don't know that you will be able to find out who if anyone died there. But they can tell you when it was built and the past owners etc.

Contact the Land Registry. It cost about £12 a copy, or ask your solicitor!.
