I bought a house a few months ago and ever since then a couple of outlets in an upstairs bedroom don't work. They weren't working prior to moving in either. I plugged in a tester and it said there was an open neutral. From what little I understand that means that somewhere along the circuit the white neutral wires have come apart, most likely at a receptical. I checked the recepticals up in the room and they all appear to have their wires firmly attached. I checked the breaker box and everything seems to be well attached also. Beyond that I'm at a loss at what else to look for. I'm trying to avoid calling an electrician because they are outrageously expensive. Any help would be extremely appreciated.

I got the vacuum for free from a friend because I didn't have one. It kind of works, but it spits some of the dirt/particles as I vacuum. It takes FOREVER to vacuum a small room with this problem. What's wrong? How do I fix it?

Hi, I'm trying fasten a deadbolt strikeplate to metal door with a wooden core. One of the woodscrews threaded OK, but the top one acted as though the wood inside the door was stripped. I tried a larger wood screw but it just pushed in by hand!

I took the deadbolt assembly out of the door and looked inside. It looks as though most of the wood behind the top of the strikeplate is broken away.

What can I do to fasten the top of the strikeplate to the door? There's no metal behind it and the visible wood is only about 1/4 thick; after that it's cracked away. I don't think it'll hold a nut-and-bolt....

I know, that was clear as mud. Sorry about that. Any ideas on fastening that strikeplate with no metal or wood to tie it to?

Thanks for taking the time to read this. Have a good day!

Similiar to the mats used under a chair & desk only much bigger. I have a daughter who is quadriplegic and I use an Invacare floor lift to get her from her chair to her bed and back again. Her bedroom has thick carpet and the wheels are going to wear tracks in the carpet as well as making it very difficult to move the lift around with her in it.
