Can it be treated?

2006-10-15 10:13:58 · 6 answers · asked by Ana M 3

I was wondering if you read any self help books or others that u thought were helpful.
I recently read "Feeling Good" by Dr. David Burns. I like it a lot and gave me ideas on how to have a better grip on my illness. Has anyone read it? What is ur feedback bout it? Tools u applied form it. My tools that I use from it is talk back to negative thoughts and try to really get to the bottom of their roots. I also apply the daily schedule and try to follow it as much as possible.

How bout you guys!!! what did u read, liked and applied? If you have learned several tools form several different books then feel free to share those thoughts and tools.

Love and peace to all!

My mom can go from screaming at us (me, my dad, and 2 brothers), then calling us all sweethearts 2 minutes later. I think she really needs help. When she makes a mistake she always blames someone else then continues to scream at them an belittle them. Or she will start a fight with me out of the blue becuase she didnt like the way I did something then blame the whole fight on me. Another thing, she will sit here with the family and constantly complain, then when someone calls, or someone other than her immediate family is around she is the worlds greatist mom, and person. Is this a problem that she may need help for, or am I just the crazy one? Like right now she is being the NICEST person, calling me sweetie, and asking me questions like she really cares, but 15 minutes ago she was outside and i just got home, and she started flipping out on me because my dad said he didn't want to throw something away. I can go on, and on but I think you may have an idea of what i mean now.

All I wanted to do was lay tile in my bathroom. I had 3 tiles break and I cut a tile that needed in a spot that I already cut the tile to fit. Why does everything have to go wrong?

New job offer and new boyfriend. I am 40 years old and have handled numerous bigger changes (too many to count). I feel as low as my spirit can go, and I wondered if anyone else has experienced this. I also have slight OCD inclinations, and the symptoms have been worse since I started the relationship with this new man 3 weeks ago. Does anyone have words of wisdom? Thank you, in advance!!

I have a chronic case of anxiety and depression, also being bipolar. I sometimes have really bad panic attacks and my dr has put me on many diffferent meds some that are working and some i feel dont and he seemsb to be hard headed when i bring up suggestions of mayby trying other medications. He doesnt seem to by on the same level as it goes for helping me with my mental isssues. This is why i think i need a new psychiatrist. I work in a maximum security prison which causes more stress in my life along with dealing with anxiety and depression . Heres the story of my meds: my family doctor started me off with i ended sticking with the cymbalta for a while which was helping me until it slowly stop working, When i intial went to my pych he wanted to ween me off my cymbalta and focus more on my anxiety. Since he did this it went all downhill from here.. is he wrong for stoping something that worked.?.. see part 2 for more info

Constantly depressed, meds (40mg lexapro, 150mg welbutrin xr and 50mg trazodone oh and .125mc levoxothirine) still down, still feel like everyone hates me,unloved, despite contrary evidence. Doc doesnt know about the feelings of bad esteem, but at this point all he can sugest is talk therapy, something Ive had before and really dont want.

hey, just wondering if anyone knew how long it takes for the FULL effect for this drug to kick in, it's been alittle over 2 weeks and ive noticed a few different things, but it still feels like things are still changing back and forth, some days i have a hardcore sex drive, other days i have no interest in it at all, than some days i am super, super happy, some i am sooo miserable, it just seems to be like a roller coaster, but changes are definitaly in progress for the better, just wondering if anyone knows how long for the full effect.thanks in advance

I have written several articles, primarily on bipolar disorder. Living with this disorder (mostly black depression) for almost 10 years has given me insight into the struggle we must face with mental illness and stigma attached.
Where can I publish some of these articles?

Ever since my divorce years ago my mom is after me non-stop about anything (e.g., You don't know about the spinach scare; You don't know where this town is located; Everyone that died in the world trade center were saints; The pilots of the aircraft that went down must have been faithful, good lovers, awesome turbine engine mechanics, etc.)

Her new one this morning…two football teams are going at it (names not important). I said, "You can't do that. They have cameras. Those are individuals. You can't hide behind the team name. They need to identify who assaulted who and assign the fines/penalties." Which they will.

So, she goes off, "That's called Team Work! Don't you know anything about Team Work?!" My God, she's a little monster.

What makes her even madder is when I know her favorite daughters point of view, I pick that side of an argument for fun, and then reminder after we are done that my sister thinks that way too. She goes freak'n ballistic. What's wrong with her?

We have recently had a change in our financial situation, and purchasing my son's Concerta is difficult. I have just found out the Ritalin has a generic equivilent. I would like to know if anyone has had any experiance with this medication, and how it worked. Also, why are generic medications for ADHD frowned upon? Thanks in advance for your input.

I used to take different meds for my anxiety such as zoloft, paxil, lexapro... but they never really helped me too much. So now my Dr. gave me .5 mg pills of alprazolam to take (only before i know i will be in an anxoius or stressful situation such as presentations or big group meetings, cus thats only really when i get anxious). Anyways.. will that .5 mg be enough dosage to work since I have already taken all those other medications previously?
