I was wondering if you read any self help books or others that u thought were helpful.
I recently read "Feeling Good" by Dr. David Burns. I like it a lot and gave me ideas on how to have a better grip on my illness. Has anyone read it? What is ur feedback bout it? Tools u applied form it. My tools that I use from it is talk back to negative thoughts and try to really get to the bottom of their roots. I also apply the daily schedule and try to follow it as much as possible.

How bout you guys!!! what did u read, liked and applied? If you have learned several tools form several different books then feel free to share those thoughts and tools.

Love and peace to all!

I'm not very knowledgeable about self-help books, but someone gave me a copy of Women Who Run With The Wolves by Clarissa Pinkola Estes. It sounds a very corny title, but I couldn't out it down. It takes different aspects of your life in each chapter - parents, relationship, body... and talks about them relating them to ancient folk tales. The idea of the book is that in modern society so much has been lost in the natural lives of women and it is about returning to our true selves(there are clues in these tales) and trusting our feminine wild inner voice. It puts everything into perspective. Fantastic.

Sophie's Choice is a BAD choice....that was a harrowing, emotionally wrenching book. I couldn't sleep right for weeks after reading it---there's no comfort in it at all. I would recommend something that simply does NOT deal specifically with death. Something to lift her spirits, and make her feel good about life in general. Her loss will take time to heal, and plunging into a fictional account of someone else's grief isn't likely to help. I'm going to recommend the Mitford series by Jan Karon. They are gentle, sweet but not sappy, stories, and there are some wonderfully funny scenes, as well as some genuinely inspiring ones. They may be the "chicken soup" she needs now. The first book in the series is called AT HOME IN MITFORD.

I have a big load of audio books I have put into my computer just for my ipod. I not sure many of these audio book programs or classes have helped me as much as they claimed they could but I did get a little something out of most of them. One audio book I really liked was The Power of Now by Eckhar Tolle. I'd put way above many of the other things I have heard, and I have a 10.8 Gig audio book mp3 collection. Even if I am not really listening to its word content I can turn it on to calm and relax me as I go to bed, but I have also found it to be a great book of its own merit from listening closely to it too. P.S. No matter whose book it is I love to edit out the non essential parts to all of my audio book files added in by the publishers so I don't have to hear unnecessary advertisements every time I just wanna hear a book.

I really liked these books for my BP illness:

Moodswing – by Ronald R. Fieve, M.D.
(latest info on breakthrough discovery on Bipolar)

Out of the Nightmare: Recovery from Depression & Suicidal Pain
By David L. Conroy, Ph.D

I Hate You…don’t leave me – Jerold J. Kreisman & Hal Straus
(understanding the borderline personality)

Patty Duke's book on manic-depression is also good reading

I do have a list of other books on the subject of abuse also.

Happy reading.

This really isn't a self help book, but if you want a confirmation about what we've been taught all our lives what Heaven is like... READ THIS BOOK. "90 Minutes In Heaven" You won't worry about dying anymore.. It is really comforting. I got mine at Walmart for about 10 bucks.
