Actually when I was an effexor it totally made me lose my appetite and I lost about 8 pounds. I guess side effects are different for everybody.

I take effexor xr now and i have gained around 22 pounds but the doctor tells me the weight gain is not due to the effexor it's just from eating more. It seems like i can't lose the weight either. I guess just excercise and cut down the calories and maybe the weight will come off for both of us. Gosh i sure hope so. Best of luck to ya.

I didn't gain weight from effexor, but I did gain weight from other medications for a painful nerve disorder (tegretol, neurotin, and percocet). I gained almost 15 pounds in 4 months. It was very frustrating - especially since I'm a personal trainer who has been thin my entire life. It gave me the opportunity to follow some of my own advice though. I cut back on foods high in fat, drank lots of water, and ate fewer red meats. I also increased the intensity and length of my exercise. I lost 20 pounds in about 2 months.

Effexor's Typical Side Effects, the usual for SSRIs and SNRIs - headache, nausea, dry mouth, sweating, sleepiness or insomnia, and diarrhea or constipation, weight gain, loss of libido and a host of other sexual dysfunctions. Most everything but the weight gain and sexual dysfunctions usually goes away within a couple of weeks. Although some women will notice that the sexual side effects will diminish above 200-225mg a day when the norepinephrine kicks in. Maybe.
