Injuries - June 2007

My little brother tripped and his toe popped. He said he popped the toe back in so I am guessing he may have dislocated it? But anyway the toe instantly blead when he hit the carpet and ripped the hole lenght of the cutical but not actuly at the cutical about 1 millimeter above it. So it ripped skin as the cutial is still attached to the nail plus skin. What should we do its been bleeding a ton in the past 2 hrs and he is keeping his foot up and its wraped?

Ok well I'm fairly new to skakeboarding and I fell off and I don 't know what I did to my ankle but it hurt so bad when I tried to get up, so I had to crawl over to the sidewalk and sit for a little while. When I felt better I got up went aftermy board and went inside and it was hard to walk and my ankle was still hurting. Well now its been like an hour and my foot is a bit purple/white and very very stiff and hard to move and there are lumps/bumps I kow where not there before, and my foot is a bit swollen. Also it was a bit tingly for about 5 minutes. Did I break it or jsut sprain? My dad felt it but didn't notice anything and won't take me to the doctors and my mom is on the phone and won't let me talk ot her.

Two nights ago, I got 7 mosquito bites. Last night, I got 5 more. My fiancee hasn't got any. My mom always told me that mosquitoes liked my sweet blood, but I researched it and found this.

Why do mosquitoes bite? Actually, it is only the females that bite and they do so out of necessity ratther than pleasure. Female mosquitoes seek blood when they are preparing to lay eggs as they need the nourishment to produce healthy offspring. The mosquito's normal diet of plant juices contains none of the proteins a female needs in order to produce her eggs. For that, she needs a concentrated source of protein, which, unfortunately for us, is blood.

If this is true, why do the mosquitoes only bite me?
Also, some of them have started to turn purple. It's acting like a spider bite, and I've never had bites do this.

I had stitches put in about 2 months ago and i have not taken them out yet. I can barley see them know, will the doctors have to make another slit to remove them?

I am a 64 yr old woman. About 3 hrs ago I fell out side in the dirt. I landed on my right elbow and split it open pretty good. I held a wet wash cloth on it and it is not bleeding anymore. I covered it with a 4x4 inch gauze pad and wrapped an ace bandage around it. It hurts but not worth a 3-4 hr trip to the ER. My question is: Is there a salve that I might have on hand to help with bateria that I can put on the gauze pad? I think peroxide would be too painful because it is a fairly large tear? Thanks for any help you can offer.

ok well the day before yesterday(wensday)i smoked something..well that whole day i had not eaten almost anything..and the day before i had just recoverd from a stomach flu and im not experienced at all with smoking weed...and around 4 after school i smoked about half a joint of marijuana and my friend who was more experienced and had already eaten smoked the other..and the friday before i had smoked half a joint of the very same stuff and well it didnt hit me as hard...this time the stuff hit me real hard like i came home an it was still there but it was after 3 hours.....and i tried to sleep but i hardly could so the next day i was feeling a bit better...and welltoday which is friday im still feeling the high...but not as much well it way less but its been like 48hrs...and it hasnt gone away and i went to the dr. yesterday and he tod me that i had just marijuna in my system and that by drinking water and stuff that in time it will go away..but well i am 15 and sorta still growing..

I have "hardware" holding my spine together as a result from a fall off of a ladder. I have lifetime medical for my back and went to my w/c dr. for a Rx for gym membership to resume PT. I want to be able to swim laps as well as go to the yoga classes. He says they won't cover it.

I tend to get random bruises (actually, they probably aren't that random, I'm just a klutz and hardly notice when I run into something). Most of the time, they go straight to brown. I looked it up and it said that brown is the color of bruises that are about 10 days old, but I'm looking at my arm right now and there are 2 brown bruises that were definitely not there this morning.

Any explaination as to why?

I was hit in the face by my airbag in an accident, where my nose took the majority of the injuries. After such force to my nose, I was left with two black eyes (on Wednesday). At the hospital, they immediately gave me ice packs for my eyes, though they really weren't bruised too terribly. After ice and heat alternation for two days, my eyes and the swelling look 100% better, but beneath my eyes is still a little dark and slightly purple. Is it unusual for the bruising to subside so quickly (not that I'm complaining)? Is is possible that my bruises could clear up for the most part by Sunday (turn yellowish, greenish, and fade)? How long does it usually take for black eyes/swelling to go away after trauma to the nose?

5 days ago I tripped over a bucket & hurt my left foot. It is still stiff, it throbs, it gets swollen each day, and I take Ibrubofen to help it although the Ibrubofen doesn't seem to do much. There is no discolouration. The pain is on the left hand side above the ball of my foot. Unfortunately I have to work and my work involves 8 hours each day on my feet serving customers and filling shelves.
My question is: as I am on my feet each day can this damage the foot any further or does it just mean it will take longer to get better?
When I prop up my leg high, low or wherever, it makes no difference to the throbbing.

i went to the denstist to get a cavity fixed and i got my mouth frozen. It was so heavily done that i couldn't feel anyyything so unknowingly, i kept biting the inside of my cheek until it started bleeding and it doens't hurt, but half my face is swollen and it just looks really bad :( how can i get rid of this??

So i fell yesterday cuz i climed a fence (long story) at first it looked not that bad, a lil scrape i guess ?
Then later it started getting red/purple now its badd its like purple. (its on my knee)
And there are darker dots where my hair is at... might be cuz hair is growing there cuz i used hair removal cream last week)

im scared. cuz its starting to get worse. ps im a 13 year old girl. is this anything to worry about ?

I tripped and fell on my left thigh, right on top of a bunch of cards (like credit cards). The result has been a "Charlie horse", where climbing up or down the stairs is painful, to say the least.
Even bending the leg is very difficult.

i rolled my foot 4 weeks ago at school.
i went to the doctor and got xrays and they saw nothing so i was gave some crutches and i was on my way.
it was still swollen and bruised and hurting super bad a week later.
i went to a foot doctor and they say nothing in the xrays either so i had a soft cast put on and i had to get a MRI in the MRI they saw nothing but a slight tear in my ligament but they said not to worry about it much.
after that they gave me a "Blue Shoe" for 2 weeks and when i went back it was still hurting really bad.
they sent me to get a repeate MRI just to make sure they didn't miss anything and when the results came in it was nothing.
so they put me in a brace and in tennis shoes.
i go back to the doctor in 6 weeks.

it still hurt REALLY REALLY bad..
like NEVER before..
it throbs in pain 24/7
i don't know what to do anymore..

ANY SUGGESTiONS?

i have been having back problems for a while now.
i have been to doctors (regular doctor and chiropractors)
had xrays done (perfectly fine)
been to physical therapy (helped some)
been on meds (helped some)
and my back still hurts.
not as bad but it still hurts
what is wrong?
will my back pain ever go away?
i am only 16.
i am an athlete and this is killing me.
please help

I was on Cymbalta for 3 months about a year ago. At first I couldn't tell the effects but later things got better. On my last visit I told the doctor I was okay and didn't think I needed it anyomore. Once it was out of my system I felt bad again. I went back to the dr. again and asked to be put back on it and he did. The first time I started of on 30 mg. and progressed to 60. This time I was started off with 60. Does this make a difference? And since I had trouble after the first time will I have to remain of these meds for years? I would have asked my dr. but these questions just occured to me. Any answers guys? Thanks.
