I tripped and fell on my left thigh, right on top of a bunch of cards (like credit cards). The result has been a "Charlie horse", where climbing up or down the stairs is painful, to say the least.
Even bending the leg is very difficult.
Thanks for your help.

If this is a serious question, then I would recommend dorsiflexion if your 'Charlie Horse' is in your calf. That means if you get a cramp in your calf, you want to stretch the calf by bending your ankle upward as if you were trying to point your toes to your face. If you are in the process of walking and that 'Charlie Horse' happens, do the same dorsiflexion position and figure out how to keep walking like that until you can get to a couch and keep stretching that calf until the spasm subsides. It makes the muscle sore afterwards so keep that in mind.

For a thigh cramp, the quadriceps contusion type of "charley horse" is initially treated by icing. Recent studies have shown that the resulting tightness and contractures that sometimes ensue can be lessened by maintaining the knee in a fully bent position for the first 24 hours to prevent the involved muscles from going into spasm. Premature return to activity can result in calcification of the hematoma in and around the muscle, a long-term problem called myositis ossificans.

If its the top of your thigh, then thats your quadrecep muscle.

Take the foot of the leg that is having the charlie horse and pull it to your butt and hold it there with the hand on the opposite part of your body.

Tell Charlie to go home. LOL!

One of the ways you can best get rid of the charlie horse, is to stretch the muscle that is cramping. If it is in your calf, try pointing your toes up as high as you can.

Find a recumbent bicycle or exercycle, and exercise for 10 minutes at a time, 3 times a day.

It will iron out all the kinks in there!

You need to do some stretching. One good stretch for the thigh is to stand, bend your leg back and grab your ankle and pull your leg back until it stretches the front of your thigh.

Have someone massage your leg, or you can do it yourself, but do it hard and do your foot as well.....I have struggled with them for like a month now......I would also try soaking in a warm epson salt bath...that usually helps too. Also make sure you get alot of potassium......
