I have been having some moderate pain in my left knee for approx. one week. I have no history of trauma to that knee. On Friday, after a few days of moderate pain, I was folding laundry and my knee 'gave way', and I felt a very sudden, sharp pain that lasted approx. 3 seconds. After that, I still had the soreness, but no other sudden pain for the rest of the evening. On Saturday, however, it began aching more, both behind the knee cap and around it. It aches more when I am sitting for a long period of time.

It sounds like plain old chondromalacia, which I have had in the right knee. However, the pain is similar to the pain I felt in my right knee when I tore my medial meniscus five years ago. I have made an appointment with my primary care doctor, but I know it is one or the other. Any ideas?

Hi, just thought I'd get some opinions. I hit my head on the weight machine at the gym about 3 weeks ago. When I did it, it obviously hurt, but I didn't think much about it. Now it's been about 3 weeks and the lump in about the size of a marble and it is VERY sensitive. Do you think it could be something serious? Has anyone ever had a lump last that long? THanks!

It's about quarter size but not round. Should I pop it or let the white blood cells do their thing? It on the back of my dominant hand and I've been careful not to hurt it, but it hurts from time to time when doing normal stuff. I can stand the pain but I'd rather pop it than have it burst.

bones (the fibula) had healed wrong and needed to be rebroken. WHile it is not as bad as my original injury, it still means a couple more weeks on crutches and at least 4 more in a fiberglass cast. Is this gross incompetence on his part for not noticing over two months?

I asked this yesterday and its still stuck. What happen was yesterday morning I was sitting in the chair. I was rolling a bowling ball around with my feet and toes. I put my big toe in the thumb hole of the ball and fell asleep watching TV. When I woke up my toe was stuck. I have been trying to get it back off but it wont come out. I have tried baby oil ice dish soap pulling on it but nothing works. I think my toe is swollen. I had to sleep with it on last night and call in to work this morning. This isnt a joke does anyone have any idea how to get it off. Please help!!!

My boyfriend injured his ankle a little a few nights ago, stubbing it against the couch (the iron retractor part beneath the recliner). In the beginning, he felt only a little soreness, but later the next day, he complained of stifness and later still, sharp pains. Now, his foot has swelled to more than half its normal size and the pain is unbearable when pressure is applied. He's limping and needs a walking stick to support his weight. He's lost his appetite and only wants to sleep. This is peculiar behavior for him. I'm worried.
Originally, there where a few minor scratches from the injury, but they barely punctured his skin and I immediately tended to them. He's reluctant to visit an ER, and I understand his discomfort. Before I take him, is there anything I could do at home to release the swelling? Does this sound like an infection? In anyone's medical opinion, is there very much that can be done, even if we did wait at an ER? Many thanks.

My collar bone was broken years ago and it healed normally. It has always had a slight bump at the fracture, but now it seems that the bump has gotten larger. Is it normal for healed fractures to change in size?

I ran into a pole and hurt my head at work yesterday. I told my boss and he just laughed so nothing was done and I had to work. I have to go into work soon and work a long day. we have spy shoppers and if we mess up, we lose our job. In other words I have to be perfect and ask everyone the same questions over and over again. This is hard enough to do everyday being that the store gets very busy. I am very dizzy today though and have a headache. I can't call in because we don't have any extra coverage for my department and any call in at my jobs counts towards getting fired if you get so many, even for illness. Is there anything I can take or do to feel bettter? I have taken advil and it isn't working and i can't go to a doctor. I will be dealing with some very bitchy customers as usual on monday and it isn't going to be easy being cheerful and pushy in sales when I feel bad. I won't be able to sit down at any time because I work in customer service.

I am a very tall, thin person( 5'7", 112lbs.), and have recently joined my local YMCA and begun a vigorous exercise routine to gain muscle and tone up. I have always been the type of person to never bruise easily. Now, I am noticing big, painful bruises especially on my legs. Is the exercising, causing these bruises? I ran cross-country in high school about 15 years ago and never experienced this kind of problem. I walk/jog about 2 miles a day for my cardio, and then do a few weight lifting machines. If the exercising is causing the bruising, is this normal, or should I notify my trainer and doctor? Thanks for any insight on this matter.

On Saturday I fell down the stairs. Our stairs are quite narrow and I tripped and fell about 5-6 steps.. I saw I was headed all the way down to the main floor ( I live on the 3rd fl) so I turned myself and caught on to the railing. My left leg swelled up and my husband and mom took me into my parents place (2nd fl) and the put ice and vicks on my leg. I'm sure it's not broken because I don't have fever and the swelling went down. But It hurts like crazy. I have a big scrape on my leg now, and bruises in a few places.
This morning I fell again trying to catch the bus.. I didn't want to miss it so I ran and slipped and fell. (caught the bus though) and now my leg is hurting like hell
Should I go to the hospital and have it checked out? I'm sure it's not broken cuz it didn't swell up..

I normally go through a cleaning regimen twelve to fifteen times each day. Unfortunately last night I slipped on my bathroom floor and a cotton swab got stuck in my ear. I heard a popping noise accompanied by some blood and I cannot pull out the cotton swab for fear of passing out. To make matters worse, I cannot hear from this ear either. I tended to my wound the best I can, taking care to clean around the ear canal and remove the blood, I even managed to sleep on my back the whole night without turning on my side- or so I thought. This morning I awoke to the broken end of a swab on my pillow and I could almost swear the other part is still stuck inside my ear canal. I still cannot hear from this ear but my medical condition precludes me from venturing into public- I cannot afford to be around germs. It is a very similar condition to the bubble boy. What should I do? Should I brave the world and go to the hospital? I feel so silly about all this, what an embarrassment.

its been over three years since i have gotten a bruise, during a certain point of my life it seems that i just stopped bruising. I broke a bench with my shin, kicked someone in their elbow, and alot of other just generally painful things. Nothing short of being beaten with a sharp wooden pole will bruise me, someone said it was a lack of vitamins but i eat healthy and take a multivitamin. any ideas?

I've got work/school tomorrow...what should I do? I called my mom and she said to call her if I started feeling worse...
