I am a very tall, thin person( 5'7", 112lbs.), and have recently joined my local YMCA and begun a vigorous exercise routine to gain muscle and tone up. I have always been the type of person to never bruise easily. Now, I am noticing big, painful bruises especially on my legs. Is the exercising, causing these bruises? I ran cross-country in high school about 15 years ago and never experienced this kind of problem. I walk/jog about 2 miles a day for my cardio, and then do a few weight lifting machines. If the exercising is causing the bruising, is this normal, or should I notify my trainer and doctor? Thanks for any insight on this matter.

You should probably see your doctor, but my first thought is that you might be a hemopheliac... not sure if I spelled that correctly, but it's the disorder where the blood is thin or doesn't clot or something like that... or maybe you're taking medication that thins your blood, like aspirin. Definitely see your doctor, and good luck!

You should go to the doctor. Are you taking any blood thinners by chance? These cause you to bruise more easily. Or, your blood could be thin for some reason. I doubt that the exercise is causing the bruising. You can also check out this website to search for more help. http://health.divinfo.com/
