I personally do not believe there is a shortage of nurses in the US. If hospital leadership were more respectful and supportive of our profession, many nurses would return to the bedside. I for one did not enter nursing to be the "whole show", aka primary nursing. I expected ancillary support from nurse aides, unit secretaries and the like. Hospitals just don't get it: nurses want time to take care of their patients, not answer the phones and perform tasks that do not require our college education/skill set to perform.

My mom has severe fibromyalga, so severe, her doctors wont allow her to work anymore, so she is attempting to get on disability. She also has blood pressure and heart problems, so there are limited options for prescription pain relief. Does anybody know of some safe natural remedies to help ease her pain?

Also, is Fibromyalga inherited?

I have chronic achilles tendonitis, which is like having 2 sprained ankles all the time and I have a bulging disc in my back. I'm in a lot of pain and I'm really depressed because since I had to quit going to biblestudy, only one girl called me one time. It's like I don't even exist. I live with my mom because she has to take care of me, so I talk to her sometimes and my counselor, but I don't have any friends anymore. Everyone left me. Do they just not know what to say? Are they so busy that they don't even think about me? I'm really sad because I can't drive and I'm in a lot of pain and no one will call me or come by to see me and I'm afraid to call them. I'm afraid that I don't have anything good to talk about because I'm so depressed, so I'll just make things worse. So, I don't call anyone and they don't call me and I'm all alone and I don't know what to do. Does anyone have any advice for me?

I heard that if you say Heimlich Maneuver when you're going to use it to help someone, that you're charged for using the name?? This is what I heard from my CPR class, and they said that's why you say adominal thrusts instead. Is this true???

Last fall, I played a little too much tennis and developed tendinitis in my right wrist and began to see a slight hint of tennis elbow, but fortunatley stopped and immobilized my arm before anything permanent could set in. Now that spring is coming, I'm going to start playing tennis a lot and I'm wondering what sort of vitamins and/or excersizes and/or anything I can do to keep my arms and joint strong and healthy. I currently take a normal multivitamin, a omega-3 complex and a glucosamine/chondroitin complex. Is there anything else I can be taking to strengthen tendins/muscles/connective tissue/bones? Also, what sort of excersizes, workouts or warm ups can you reccomend for me?

Recently, I have been diagnosed for having meniscus tear on right knee. This came from a soccer injury. I did MRI (positive) and x ray and have been seen by 2 Doctors who recommend a surgery. I am waiting for a referral to see a third Doctor for more opnion (well know) in the area. I am not in desperate situation yet. I can walk but can't do squat or run and often it swells up. What shall I do?? Do you know about an organization (if any) to check records of success or failure for performing the surgery

my friend broke her ankle. she had to have titanium plates, and screws "installed" Her body is rejecting them, and the screws are coming out. She is in a lot of pain and complaining of a red line going across her foot. Is that a possible allergic reaction? any other things it could be? Her foot is also incredibly itchy. She has had the screws in, since later August. about 4mos. Dr. wants her to keep the hardware in for 4-6 more months. But you can feel the screws against her skin. This just sounds strange to me, anyone with experience or med.practice, any comments would be insightful!!!!!!

i have all of the above mentioned: scoliosis and kyphosis, and osgood schlatters disease. i have extreme pain with all of them! i was treated with physio, electrolosis and exercise and at 17 i was last measured at a 16 degree S curvature - to the left. since then i was a passanger in a car accident at age19 and am now 21.
i have been told that for all it is extremely rare to have any pain at all with any of these, but all of these conditions are permanant and cannot be treated after the age of 17 so i shouldn't have bother. it's constantly getting worse, an i have to crack it constantly and i haven't been able to work for 18 months or more due to this pain... which apparently shouldn't exist with these conditions and i should be fully capable to work. most days i have trouble moving or getting out of bed, and if i can i'm in a lot of pain.
has anyone else run into this problem at all?
is there any web sites anyone knows of with more infomation?

I get sudden extremely painful jolts on one area of my head. The pain lasts for less than a second, but they are severe. They come and go frequently throughout the day for several days at a time... I've experienced them on different sides of my head, but when they occur, they usually happen in one area at a time. Can anyone tell me what kind of headache this is, and how to get rid of them?! THEY HURT!!

PS
I have no other symptoms, no runny nose or congestion or blurry vision. Actually, I do get blurry vision; from squinting my eyes when that sudden jolt hits me!

Thank you in advance for your help!
