It would be good to get a check-up with a doc, you can go to a clinic in your area. There should be a free in you area.
There must have been something that traumatized your knee, for the swelling to occur. Do you remember falling @ all?
If you have pain in your back side, beginning in the middle of your glute that radiates down your leg, this could be sciatica (inflammation or pinching of the sciatic nerve). This can happen for many different reasons.
Resting, stretching like yoga & ibuprofen albeit there no other contraindication; health issues or drug interactions.
Icing the area when you first injured it 20 min. on & off for the first 24 hours, then heat (bath or heating pad).
If you can afford a massage, that would be helpful too.

Find a Chiropractor. I know some people think they are quacks BUT my back hurt for a year. I could not walk for more than an hour at a time because my back would hurt so bad. I finally went to the Chiropractor. It was fixed within 3 sessions and now I go once a month to be adjusted. When I don’t get an adjustment, my hips, my knees and back hurt. You wouldn't think it would help your knees and hips, it does!! :)

I’m a fit 37 year old woman. I’m not over weight. BUT I need this to stay pain free. I’m able to go to my Chiropractor for $25.00 a session. Ask friends who they go to and call around and ask what their cash price is (if you do not have insurance to cover it) My insurance at one time did pay for it, now I pay my Chiropractor $25.00 and I’m done.

Hope this helps.

Possibly sciatica where the sciatic nerve becomes compressed ... the pain radiates from the buttocks down the inner thigh ... pain can be mild to severe ( I know, I had it at Xmas and I was in tears ). That shouldn't cause a problem with upper limbs though .... you really need to see a doctor for reassurance.

no one can tell you but a doctor. it takes xrays and all that, see if you can get help from medicaid to get you to a doctor.
