Recently, I have been diagnosed for having meniscus tear on right knee. This came from a soccer injury. I did MRI (positive) and x ray and have been seen by 2 Doctors who recommend a surgery. I am waiting for a referral to see a third Doctor for more opnion (well know) in the area. I am not in desperate situation yet. I can walk but can't do squat or run and often it swells up. What shall I do?? Do you know about an organization (if any) to check records of success or failure for performing the surgery

I am just answering to say thanks. because I was kinda wondering the same thing, i had a slight meniscus tear in my right knee from basketball, and had to get my knee drained, but after 2 months, ive been cool, no swelling. but if i were to get surgery, and doctors recommended, i wouldnt hesitate to get it, if i knew it had a high success rate. good luck man. get that surgery. i also played soccer for 10 years, so i feel your pain brotha. tendinitus in both my knees too.

There is a very good success rate for this type of surgery. It is very simple and easy and takes less than a hour and it is done laperscopic now, so less down time and faster healing. I have had 6 sergerys on my left knee now. The first was the same issue that you are dealing with. I was very suprised after the surgery I walked out of the hostial that day and traveled from Denver to caliofnis the next day. You don't want to wait to long to get it fixed or else the tear could get worse.

Meniscal tears tend to get jammed in the joint, which would cause pain, as well as wear out the cartilage in the knee (there is no known way to date to repair a large cartilage defect). Surgery is actually very successful for this type of problem. How many doctors would it take for you to believe that the procedure should be done?

Go to the doctor.
