I heard that if you say Heimlich Maneuver when you're going to use it to help someone, that you're charged for using the name?? This is what I heard from my CPR class, and they said that's why you say adominal thrusts instead. Is this true???

Only in a convention of lawyers might you have to worry about that. I have used it several times and have been CPR Certified for many years and have never been told that before. I have heard that the CPR Instructor could not refer to it as the Heimlich Maneuver for leagal reasons, but that was only for the instructor of a paid class. When saving a life, nobody cares what you call it, just do it.

Never heard of that before. Besides I think most people will say I used the thingamagig thingy lol as you can hardly remember how to say Heimlich manouver. I suppose it could ge a registered name regarding products etc. But I will truely remember it for it's real name from a very frightening experience I had. At the time of the above method being out, I read a lot about it as it was everywhere. I never, ever , EVER thought that I would be in a situation where I would have to use it. I never even practice it either. A child was choking after having several toffees ( not one!) - I didn't even know what was in the child's mouth I just knew that they were choking, It was so very frightening indeed. The normal pat on the back just didn't work! I prayed to God to help and I remember the method I read about and saw on TV. I tried it the first time but I was scared of hurting the child, but now the child was in a serious way, I did it again- and Glory be to God, something just flew out- I was shocked to see that it was several toffees. I was checking nothing was left in the child. It even hurts to recall this experience but that is one method and name I will never forget and be so dearly appreciative for in my life. For me it is truely a miracle from God that it worked.

I've never heard of someone being charged for using their name in the Heimlich Maneuver. It may help them stay focused on not choking to death if you talk to them. Who knows!?!?! This wouldn't be the first time I was wrong about something.

you're slightly mistaken.

If someone CHARGES you money to take a class on CPR, and THEY call it "heimlich" then they may have to pay a fee.

If you use it for FREE to save a life, you can call it what you want.

Same way that if you make a copy of a movie on TV to wqatch later in your home, it's okay, but if you make money off that copy, by showing it for a fee or by selling it, you must pay the owners of the movie title.

I don't know but in my CPR classes, we were not told about that and we use the term a lot here and we are not charged for it. I think that is totally impractical. But i don't really know.

This is absolutely true. It's like you saying my name, Max. Every time you say it I am automatically sent 5cents by paypal.
