For those people that work 3rd shift- typically having a 10 hour shift 4 nights a week- that would normally sleep during the day and have a hard time doing so- I have heard that people CAN'T make up sleep from lost. My friend has really broken sleep patterns, but on his days off, he sleeps like 16 hours because he is just exhausted from his long work week of overnight shifts. Is it just a fallacy that sleep CAN'T be made up?

I have fair skin, so anytime I run into a chair or something, there is a bruise. This past week or so though, I have found bruises on my legs that I can't even think of what I could have hit or run into. It seems like they just appeared out of nowhere. A friend of mine is a medical assistant, and she said maybe it's low iron. I haven't changed my diet or anything recently-- still eating whatever I want lol It's just weirding me out I guess and I'd like to know what, other then low iron, could be the cause. Thanks :)

My friend/roommate has been 87lbs since she was 8yrs old. She is now 37yrs. She is not anorexic as far as I know and is not a fitness person either. In fact she is pretty normal. She is about 5'4. We talk about this but she is sensitive with others about her weight and lies at times (saying it is more) to avoid remarks. The dietician told her she has a high metabolism. This maybe true but is it possible that something else is not right?

Nervous,because i hate Needles.

Not worried about the pain - because i know it won't hurt much.

Just the idea of a needle going into a vein. eek.

very squeamish.

I work in a bar, get home about midnight then go to bed. I fall asleep quickly but seem to sleep for about 12 hours and struggle to wake up early after my 8 hours. I've tried setting my alarm clock but i just ignore it. My eyes feel heavy and i'm really struggling. I feel so guilty because i know its not a good lifestyle. Has anyone had this problem? How can i change this because I'm really sick of sleeping all day? I feel sluggish & tired all the time. My diet isn't that magnificent, i eat twice a day. I look forward to your suggestions.

I was recently diagnosed with migraines. The doctor put me on Migquin for the pain. (He does not have me on a preventative yet.) As they warned me, it makes me really drowsy.

The weird part is: If I take it at night, I go to bed like I normally do. But, when the drowsy effect wears off, I wake up and cannot get back to sleep--even if I was naturally ready to sleep before taking the pills!

This has happened twice now. I only got 1 hour of sleep tonight because of this phenomenon.

Is this a normal reaction?

Thanks!

2morrow (dec. 30th) will mark one year since i had my knee reconstructed. I had my ACL replaced and part of my meniscus taken out. i started snowboarding again this season even though i still have problems with it. after boarding it swells up which is to be expected. But one thing i don't understand is it locks up when i have been sitting for a while. I have to kick it out until it pops before i can walk on it and even then i gimp for a little bit before i can walk normal again (2-5 minutes). i notice this mostly when i go to leave my classes or get out of the car after driving for a while. does anyone know what is making this happen and what i can do to make it chill out?

I have headaches frequently so my mom took me to the doc to get it checked out. They told me it was a sinus infection and put me on antibiotics. They worked, but after I used them all, the headaches returned. I went to the doctor again and they told me that they knew it wasn't a sinus infection, but they couldn't quite pinpoint what it was. So they gave me an injection of dopamine and referred me to a neurologist. The dopamine didn't work at all, so we went to the neuro. I had to get an MRI to rule out anything serious, and I turned out clean. This brought them to the conclusion that I have migraines (even though I'm not sensitive to light or loud sounds.. aren't these common with migraines?) so they recommended that I take Topamax (isn't this the same thing as dopamine?). They warned me though, that Topamax may reduce the ability to think coherently so I turned the offer down. Now I still have the headaches and regular painkillers like ibuprofen don't do anything. Help?

Or do the sleeping pills interfere with the different processes that take place during sleep?

And what about with anesthetic? Does the body behave like its asleep when you're put under for surgery?

I am fourteen years old, and therefore should get approximately nine to eleven hourse of sleep a night, correct? Most nights, due to my inability to fall asleep before 1:00 am (and belive me, I try!) I get around six hours. I am able to wake up in the morning and can function fine without any noticeable effects. Is not getting the reccomended amount of sleep for my age group bad for my health, even if I don't feel the effects?

Ok looking for the names of two songs.

One I remember lyrics are something like, "I can give what you want, I can give what you need", it was a chick sining, it also sounded like it had an electronica beat goin too.

The next one is the song from the iPod Shuffle commercial, sounds foreign, I would say French, but for all I know it could be English, or maybe something else.

I have chronic low back pain. On consulting with my physiotherpist, he suggested to wear a LS belt with metallic strip.

My focus is to keep my spine erect with in the right shape of 'S'.I mean the belt should keep my low back at natural curved posture.

I am just curious because I set my alarm for almost an hour before I need to wake up, to snooze up to 5 times. Is this easier on the body or if I go a week or so just snoozing once will I feel less tired during the day? Basically am I costing myself an hour of sleep each day by breaking it up 5 times?
