It depends on what type of fracture. The MD can perform casting, Internal / External Fixator.. to realign the bones so there can be union. After the surgery the patient should undergo Physical Therapy to restore function.

The fibula is not weight bearing a fx is not serious. Fx of the tibia may require use of a plate screwed in place or some fx in young people might be merely casted.

It will heal with complete rest. The danger is bone shattering with use of the limb.
