Don't worry about it, it isn't bad. Actually, if you've ever had a finger prick blood test, that hurts WORSE than one with a needle in a vein. The needle is very small. You'll feel a small pinch, and before you know it, it will be all over.
Occasionally during a blood test, they have to take several vials of blood. If you get a good phlebotomist, you won't even know it is happening.
Sing a song in your head to keep your mind off what is happening when they draw the blood. Also, let the person who is taking your blood know it is your first time and you are nervous. They will take special care to make sure you are comfortable.

Blood drawn doesn't hurt much at all. All you will feel is a pinch as the needle goes in, and that doesn't last but a second. Just ask them to do it in your non-dominant arm since your arm will be sore for a little while afterward since it sometimes bruises the muscle. Keep your head turned in the other direction as they do it, and if it's a good nurse you won't even know when they begin until it's over. Plus if you can't see the needle, it won't make you as squeamish. I hate needles too, but I've had blood drawn many times. I've gotten where this doesn't bother me anymore unless the stupid idiot decides they HAVE to do it in my dominant arm...lol. I hope this helps. Good luck.

To be honest, it all depends on the one extracting the blood... if your test will be done in the hospital (where they do extractions every minute), It will probably hurt as much as the bite of an ant....
Relax and don't contract the muscle near the area of the extraction because it will hurt more .... and also, just don't look at the needle and take a deep breath ....

yeah, just dont look at all. my mom is the same way. i however used to get allergy shots twice a week, so i am totally fasinated with watching the blood. i think its really cool how that tiny little needle works and just watching them collect the blood. i mean, i was a VERY accident prone child, so blood is nothing new, its just always so much darker in the vile then i remembered on my knees!

It really depends on your pain tolerance and how nervous you get. If you get yourself all worked up before hand it can be a really unpleasant expeience. The key is to distract yourself. I like to tell the nurse doign it a really long joke...that way i am concentrating on telling the joke and not what shes doing. Good luck!

no it won't hurt...ask for somebody who knows what they are doing since you are afraid of needles...i once had someone who did not know what they were doing and they ended up poking me like many times....plus i had rolling veins..which didn't help any..but if they know what they are doing they will hit the nail right on the head on the first try.....so tell them you are afraid...be honest with them in the first place....

just think of something else while the doctor or the nurse injects the needle to you. so you won't feel the pain....(avoid distracting the doctor or the nurse to avoid them from breaking the needles(even professionals are prone to errors, if distracted.))

With the small needles and an expert phlebotomist if you just close your eyes, you will not know when it happens.
