I have headaches frequently so my mom took me to the doc to get it checked out. They told me it was a sinus infection and put me on antibiotics. They worked, but after I used them all, the headaches returned. I went to the doctor again and they told me that they knew it wasn't a sinus infection, but they couldn't quite pinpoint what it was. So they gave me an injection of dopamine and referred me to a neurologist. The dopamine didn't work at all, so we went to the neuro. I had to get an MRI to rule out anything serious, and I turned out clean. This brought them to the conclusion that I have migraines (even though I'm not sensitive to light or loud sounds.. aren't these common with migraines?) so they recommended that I take Topamax (isn't this the same thing as dopamine?). They warned me though, that Topamax may reduce the ability to think coherently so I turned the offer down. Now I still have the headaches and regular painkillers like ibuprofen don't do anything. Help?

I have tried a nasal inhaler. The only effect was a particularly nasty taste in my mouth. I have not been to an optometrist however.. I think I probably will soon.

i also have migranes and no dr.'s can exactly pinpoint whats going on. i have tried everything and i have found that this works amazingly you dont need anything at all. all you have to do is:
1.rest your elbows on a table/desk.
2.take your fourfingers and apply pressure on your eyelids [with your eyes closed of course]
this may hurt a little but what you are doing is releasing endorphines into your body and they go to your brain and relive your pain!

really hope this helps because i know they can be painful =[

I think I would take the Topamax, they may not nessessarily adversly affect you.
Taking Ipobufren is not going to help at all.
It's not an analgesic or painkiller in that sense. It reduces pain by eleviating joint inflamation,as in arthritis. Long term use has proved to have pretty nasty side effects including increasing any predisposition for strokes,T.I.A.s and heart conditions.
Have you tried using a nasal inhaler. They will reduce swelling of your sinus's.The Tiger Balm brand is especially good and has no nasties added.A daub on your temples may also help.Keep it away from your eyes.
Have you been to an optometrist lately,or ever?
Migranes can often be caused by the need for glasses.Especially when the pain is located in the region of the nasal bridge, behind the eye or in the temple area.
Its something Drs sometimes forget to check when diagnosing.Eye strain can give a headache that is just as you describe,no light or noise sensitivity, but very intense.
You do need a painkiller/analgesic to get you through the headaches. There is a type on the pharmacutical list called Tramal it contains a non addictive chemical called tramadol hydrocloride. They are very effective and available in normal capsules 50mgs.,or varying strengths in slow release form. You will need a prescription.
I am in Australia and most things that are available here are also in the U.S.A.or U.K.
Here they are available on the N.H.S. scheme.
There are many other therapies, such as seeing a chiropracter, having acupuncture, bowan therapy etc.etc.But these are very cost inhibiting for most people.
Hoping this has given you food for thought and leads to some help..

Lots of good answers here. I, as a headache sufferer agree with most of them. No-one however mentioned reflexology. Acupressure to feet and hands as well as the head massage which was mentioned and is great relief. Finding out the triggers, whether stress related or diet related. Avoid indigestable foods, spicy, fatty etc usually. More and more water to drink, warm water helps. Feet in hot water. Rest, sometimes elevating feet helps. Herbal teas for nervousness help in stress. Laxatives can help. Psyllium husk before bed is a cheap easy one.

Short term - drink a whole Gatorade as fast as you can

long term - you can have allergies and not have the sneezing/ sniffling - see if allergy meds help - they have cut my number of headaches from almost every day to 3/4 per month
