2morrow (dec. 30th) will mark one year since i had my knee reconstructed. I had my ACL replaced and part of my meniscus taken out. i started snowboarding again this season even though i still have problems with it. after boarding it swells up which is to be expected. But one thing i don't understand is it locks up when i have been sitting for a while. I have to kick it out until it pops before i can walk on it and even then i gimp for a little bit before i can walk normal again (2-5 minutes). i notice this mostly when i go to leave my classes or get out of the car after driving for a while. does anyone know what is making this happen and what i can do to make it chill out?

Which meniscus was removed? The ACL controls over extension so the locking up may be the epicondyle finding a new resting position where the adjacent meniscus is lower; esp so if the new ACL is too short and pulling the joint together harder. Physical therapy may help with unlocking the knee since it is the posterior popliteal ligament that locks the knee into what is called the 'home position'.

Ouch, that hurts. I guess this is a normal thing since the minscus has been taken out. I would make sure a doctor knows about this--Just in case being athletically involved might be the issue. Good luck!
