TYLENOL IS AMPHETAMINE
ADVIL IS IBUPROFEN

THEY ARE BOTH GOOD FOR PAIN BUT TAKEN ON A DAILY BASIS CAN CAUSE LIVER AND KIDNEY PROBLEMS

As far as helping you sleep better, they both use the same thing - anithistamines. So if you're having trouble sleeping and you live in a cold area, chances are the antihistamine will dry out your sinuses even further, which won't help with sleep. You'll be drowsy AND coughing.

Which drug is better depends on a lot of things. First, if you're on any other medications, you need to know if they will interact with either Tylenol or Advil. Generally, Tylenol is safer as far as interactions go. However, if you have liver disease, Tylenol could make that worse. Advil should be avoided if you have ulcers. If there are no other health conditions to worry about, then it depends on what kind of pain you have. I've found that Advil works better for me on headaches and muscle pain, but joint aches do better with Tylenol. That's just me. It really depends on the individual.

Either way, be careful not to over-dose yourself. Even though these are non-prescription, they are still fairly strong drugs. The label warnings are there for a reason. Don't take too many at one time - in fact, it's best if you start with the lowest dose and see if that works for you. If not, then try the higher dose. Also, don't take a second dose before the timeframe given on the bottle. Finally, mixing Tylenol and Advil isn't a problem, but you should not take Advil and Aspirin or Aleve, as they are the same kind of drug and can cause problems.

Advil contains ibuprofen which is an antiinflammatory that is better for joint pain. Tylenol will help with headaches and fever as well. So depending on what type of pain you have you would need to decide which one to take. If one is not working well by itself you can rotate them. When my children had very high fever that would not come down with ibuprofen the dr. recommended giving ibuprofen, then 2 to 4 hrs later giving Tylenol. There's different ingredients in each so you would not be over doing it if they overlap.

Tylenol PM

I would choose Tylenol PM for this reason. My 11 year old was prescribed Motrin for her migraines. ON Halloween she ended up in the hospital with two blood transfusions because apparently Motrin tears up your stomach lining.

Motrin is a great anti imflammatory drug, but Tylenol is safer on a more regular basis.
PS if you just want to sleep, go get benedryl (diphenhydromene) or anti motion sickness meds (meclezene). Both are used in Tylenol PM and Motrin PM to make you sleep and are way cheaper in their generic form.

Depends on the kind of pain. If Advil is Ibuprofen then it is good for muscles and inflammation. Tylenol has acetominophen in it, that can cause liver problems if you dont take it correctly.
