Why do people on this site ask so many questions about their health instead of just going to a doctor to find out what is wrong.??????

During the night, my calf muscle cramps painfully, and the only way that it will stop is if I rise and walk around the room. The same muscle also cramps when I attempt to stretch upon waking.

I know they protect from ticks and other annoyances, but will they keep oil from poison ivy off your skin? Seems like a cheap way to avoid weeks of annoyance...

ever since i as little i suffered from canker sores...they are very painful. When I was younger they were few and far between now that I am older they are more frequent and sometimes I will have more than one. I went to my doctors for this numerous times while growing up and they always just gave me stuff for the pain never anything that can help it go away. Now I realize that peroxide is really the only thing that works (but takes awhile) so I wash my mouth out with a 50/50 solution of peroxide. Is there anything anyone has tried that really works and helps them go away quicker and stay away longer. My doctor said its in the herpes family but that I dont have herpes... she confused me ... anyone know about this??

It's been a week since my flight and my right ear still has not stopped hurting. My pain went all the way down my neck at the time of landing. Then I literally got off one plane and right back into the air. The left ear quit hurting after a day. Now its just "stuffed" feeling - I feel like I'm hearing in a tunnel, there's a constant buzzing and my head aches like crazy. Everything is muffled and I feel like I'm screaming but everyone is telling me to speak up.

We went to the Smokey Mts. one time and I cried the whole drive because the pressure was so bad and it took hours for my hearing to get back to normal.

Could this be an ear infection? I've never had one before. It just doesn't seem normal to have so much pain for so long after flying.

I need to choose between a PPO and HMO plan at work. They cost about the same. Any ideas of which way to go? The PPO has a $200 deductible and covers 90% of hospital stuff. While the HMO covers 100% and has no deductible, I have to ALWAYS go to a Primary Care Physician first (if I want to then go to a specialist like a dermatologist or allergist, etc). Any thoughts anyone?

I had an injury, falling on buttocks three months ago. Since then I've had twitching, tingling, involutary movement, and pain down the back of my legs. I have pain that radiates throughout my hands and arms. My fingers curled up and I could not move them for several days. I get light-headed and dizzy sometimes and run fevers. My legs get numb and my feet and hands swell up. I also have swelling in my hips and in my back. Sometimes I can't control the movement in my left hand and I get these little tingling sensations in my hands and in my forehead. At times I get these shock-like sensations in the back of my legs and in my back. Sometimes I can't walk straight because my back starts to hurt and it feels like its burning. I know these are a lot of symptoms but that's what's going on with me. I'm a little worried because the doctors don't seem to know what's wrong. Can someone please help me shed some light on this situation because I really need some help.

...both retired Royal Navy, blethering away like it was going out of fashion. Among the topics of conversation were the many health benefits of saunas and steam rooms. So I hear all this grapevine type health wisdom about "sweating out the toxins" etc etc and I wonder...

Exactly what IS going on, biologically speaking, when you take a sauna? What are the biochemical processes inside your body, and what good, or bad, is it doing you?

PS for the record, the sauna was attached to a municipal swimming pool. Behave now.

I was picking up stuff on the beach and accidently picked up a tiny piece of rusty metal. My finger did bleed a bit, so whatever got in got flushed out. I had a tetanus shot last fall do I need another?

It hurt like a mother,I was crying like a pathetic baby and I couldn't even move it or it would start to hurt even worse. I'm talking I was in a DEEP sleep, and it woke me up with no warning.I guess it kind of sounds like it was a Charley Horse, but this is the third time it has happened to me in the past 10 years or so. The first time, the doctor sent me to the ER because my leg was turning blue and he was worried it could be a blood clot. Keep in mind, I am only 33 (younger then) and VERY active and don't smoke. It wasn't a blood clot, but I was on crutches for a few days after. Now,after last night's episode, it still hurts just a little, I put some heat on it and massaged it and took some Advil. It almost feels like a pulled muscle. I always stay hydrated, and take a multivitaman every day. But maybe I'm not getting enough potassium?Again, I want to reiterate the PAIN I went through, I don't wish it on my worst enemy.
Any ideas? I'm going to the doc if it doesn't get better soon.
