During the night, my calf muscle cramps painfully, and the only way that it will stop is if I rise and walk around the room. The same muscle also cramps when I attempt to stretch upon waking.

It might be low blood sugar. If you eat a hard boiled egg, a cracker or cookie, and some nuts - almonds or peanuts, you may not have that cramping during the night. If you eat about an ounce or two of meat, and the same other stuff about 1 hour before you exercise, you probably will avoid the cramps.

Check yourself out against the symptoms list at www.hufa.org, if you suspect low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) is a chronic problem.

I agree. You need more potassium. Also, when you wake up with a calf cramp, you can relieve it by rotating your foot counter-clockwise instead of getting up.

You might want to try tonic water (It contains quinine). Sorry if you don't like the taste but it really works.

You can get quinine pills. See the links below.

sounds like a possible shortage of potassium in your diet. More bananas, broccoli, or other vegetables/fruits that have potassium will be great to eat.
