...both retired Royal Navy, blethering away like it was going out of fashion. Among the topics of conversation were the many health benefits of saunas and steam rooms. So I hear all this grapevine type health wisdom about "sweating out the toxins" etc etc and I wonder...

Exactly what IS going on, biologically speaking, when you take a sauna? What are the biochemical processes inside your body, and what good, or bad, is it doing you?

PS for the record, the sauna was attached to a municipal swimming pool. Behave now.

Damn!!! I read the ps part just before replying.....

Saunas make you sweat out all the toxins that you don't need which helps you lose weight. You sweat out these toxins anyway, but you are speeding up the process in the sauna.

Sweating is the bodys' natural way of omitting toxins.

It is very good to sweat.
