Like it at times. I love writing on the board. Others usually listen to the sound I make.

It's a natural reaction for some people. People react differently to different sounds. Most people can't stand fingernails scratching on chalkboards. Some can't stand the sound windbreakers make. There are also some weird ones - e.g., my mom shivers whenever someone pulls the type of string you would see on talking dolls.

Note to Patricia above--it's not about being PC to call it "chalkboard". They're rarely black anymore, but rather green.

Anyhoo, back to the question. I answered this once before, and don't remember the source to cite, but it has to do with our animal reflex to injury. The sound closely resembles the sound of damage to our teeth; while it's not painful, it's dangerous.

it doesnt bother me for some reason. i like to scratch the chalk board to bother other people becasue it doesnt hurt my ears or annoy me.

No I dont feel weird It just makes me cringe, think about running your nails down the balckboard.....hurgh!!!!! cringey or what..
