I work at an office and every Monday morning the phone rings off the wall. I just wonder why people don't wait awhile?

My, my I have hit a cord with some of you. I did not say we are not picking up the phone. I did not say I did not enjoy my job. I simply asked a question. I do wonder though if you do not like sitting on hold. Why not wait till 9:15. 9:30. Then you do not have to sit on hold and be mad. Or listen to music.

They have been freaking out all weekend about whatever ails them!

What for? If you open at 9am, don't complain about having to pick up a phone at 9:01. See, it's people like you that piss me off. Maybe the person had a medical problem all all weekend and needed to consult the primary doctor... Maybe the person has a really important question.
The doctor is getting paid a 6 figure salary, and if you don't want to pick up the phone when you are officially open....THEN GET ANOTHER JOB where you can sit on your a$$ and do nothing. You should really look over your job description. Try working at the DMV, you would be an asset.
In the long run we are talking about customers and their health. Without customers, you would be jobless!

How else are they going to get an appt. & it's not like you all answer the phone. I've gotten "contact the dr on call" message 30 mins after opening. If you do get through, you're put on hold listening to earsplitting elevator music for 5-25 mins! If you don't care about the sick, get a new job.

They have had to wait all weekend and some have been to the ER with a referral that says "Follow Up with you PCP asap" you don't know enough about real life to be a receptionist at a doctors office.

Lot's of people call first thing so they can get an appointment time that they want. As the day goes on the Doctor usually gets more and more behind schedule.

Because often times once things get busy it is almost impossible to get anyone to answer. Plus most people put off seeing a doctor on the weekend or seeking advice.

I used to work in a hospital and they all think they are the most important thing and that they are having an emergency... Fact is, if they ARE having an emergency they need to call 911. They just need attention. Its alway old people too.

Because we think we can get through as soon as the office opens for an appointment on the same day.

Is your office closed all weekend? If so, it's because they couldn't call you Sat or Sun when they were either sick or thinking they needed to make an appointment soon.
