I was picking up stuff on the beach and accidently picked up a tiny piece of rusty metal. My finger did bleed a bit, so whatever got in got flushed out. I had a tetanus shot last fall do I need another?

Tetanus shots are typically administered every 10 years unless you are immuno-compromised. If you've had a tetanus shot recently and are in good health you should be okay. Keep an eye on the wound. Watch for red streaking and tightness in the jaw area. If you experience any of the symptoms seek medical help immediately.

There are 2 different types, one that lasts 5 years and one that lasts 10. That is regarding the vaccine, of course. If you had the shot that is done for treatment, after you have an accident like the one you had now, that doesn't last. If you are sure you did the vaccine, you are covered. If you did the serum against the disease, you are not. Try to clear that, because it is serious. The fact that the blood came out doesn't affect the possibility to get the virus.

I ust got back from my docs this moment having had the jag as I'm off to Kenya at the end of the month.

I have my details in front of me.

I got the "Revaxiz" jag which covers Diptheria, Tetanus and Polio. I received it today and my card tells me I will need it again in 10 years.

If you had a shot last year I am sure you will be fine.

I'd so better win best answer for this one.

your first aid is nice and you don't told that when you had ur last fall,ok. as per WHO tetanus shot has to take at 0,1,6 months(3 inj.),then no TT for any wound up to 5 years, after 5 years if any then take only 1 dose ofTT .it works more 5 yrs. means totally 10yrs,if any after 10 yrs then u have to start from begining.

Every 10 years, but if you get a bad cut or a dog bite, they will give you one after 5.

You should be OK

Once every ten years, usually. Unless something happens to you that you need another one before then. I'd ask the doctor about your situation.
