I know they protect from ticks and other annoyances, but will they keep oil from poison ivy off your skin? Seems like a cheap way to avoid weeks of annoyance...

They don't protect from ticks - ticks will climb up until they find skin. So will redbugs (chiggers). They love the waist-band because it is warm and moist.

No, they don't completely protect against the oils if you get enough on you any more than they protect against water or coffee being spilled on your legs. They will help against a casual brush-by only, not hiking through.

Poison Ivy Pantyhose

There is no way pantyhose can keep the oil from poison ivy off your skin. Granted the weave is tight but the oil can penetrate them, the same way the oil may penetrate clothes

Nope they've got mini holes in them that poison ivy can penetrate since any part of the ivy can infect you. i.e an ivy leaf being drug accross your panty hoe, entering the mini holes, and causing you to break out.
