I was wondering if anyone knows someone with COPD. My mom was just diagnosed, I don't know exactly what percentage of her lung is diseased, I just know it's in one lung, and she is now on Advair. If she manages to quit smoking, will she be ok? I mean, will she live more than just a few years? I can't imagine losing her, she's only 56. My mother in law just passed away a few months ago at 62 from lung cancer, I can't even handle this right now. I AM going to make sure somehow she quits smoking, but does anyone know if it truly helps and will prolong her life a lot? I want her to live to a ripe old age of 85. I don't want her to just have 5 or 8 years. Thanks.

both my daughters smoke and one has a 3 month old baby. After they smoke they rarely wash their hands and their clothes smell of smoke. They do go outside to smoke. The baby has already had 2 ear infections and stays conjested. Her sinuses now have blood in them. Could this be from the cigarettes.

Hi, I've had bronchitis for i about 2 months now. just as i was getting better i thought it would be okay to do some exercise - think i overdid it and now im sick again. For the past week Im coughing up green stuff, my left ear is blocked and my glands on the left side of my neck are swollen. I'm also really tired. I am starting to get my appetite back though. Feeling guilty because i've missed 4 days work already. Should i see a private doctor for a second opinion or just let it get better over time by resting although i have been ill for so long?

I am 21 and have never had breathing problems more serious then mild allergies. About three weeks ago I had a pretty serious case of the flu, and developed a cough and wheeze around then. Flu is gone, cough and wheeze is not so I went to my colleges health clinic (the voodoo hut), and after a nurse practicioner listened to my chest I was told I have bronchial asthma and given a steroid inhaler and a breathing treatment.

First of all, do you think its asthman? Second, what doctor should I go to for follow up?

When i was young i used to have a constant cough that i couldnt control. My family would always get mad at me saying that the coughing was a habit and they would tell me to stop and try to hold it in. But i really couldnt hold it i just had to cough. When i tried holding it in it would just explode out? The cough seemed kind of fake though like i was forcing it not like the coughs you have when your sick that make that wierd noise? what could that constant cough been from? Do you think its asthma related?

I have a partial asthma disease thing, and my parents won't let me play hockey. I mean, I don't have asthma, but I rarely have wheezing or shortness of breath and my parents think that it is from the cold air while playing hockey. As you all know, hockey is the best sport in the world and I really want to play it. How can I lose this "disease" and play hockey. You CAN lose this "disease" and please no "I don't know" answers. Thanks
