My EBV titers are quite elevated, and I've been diagnosed with reactivated EBV (some call it chronic EBV). My doctor wants to use a steroid injection (Depo-Medrol) to suppress the immune system response to the EBV. This is supposed to get my immune system response down to a more normal level and help my symptoms (extreme fatigue, fever, etc.). Is anyone familiar with this type of treatment? Please also list how you are experienced with it (i.e. have undergone this therapy, are in medical field, etc). :)

Thanks so much!

My mother will soon be starting Kidney Dialysis at home, and as her carer I will be trained to connect her lines, work the machine and give injections. I'm not sure how I'll cope. Any advice from those in similar situations? All suggestions most appreciated.

I know this sounds really stupid, but
my friend gave me some skittles and she touched em with her hand. She's had punomeia(?) for a while, and getting over it. She has a bad cough, and most of the time when she coughed, she coughed in her hand. Should I be worried?

What do you do when:

You feel this really sharp pain right below (like 1 1/2 inch) the bellybutton, and then your leg hurts, so you go to take a couple steps and then all of a sudden you faint, Bash your head on a wall and start seizuring?

Okay well this happened to me yesterday in the shower, and I didnt go to doctors because I have no insurance (i'm a poor college student).
Today I have a headache (which i think would be normal), and there is a slight pain in the same spot.

Does anyone have any ideas of what could have caused me to faint so suddenly?

I plan on going to the doctors sometime in the next month, just looking for some suggestions first! Thank you

Does anyone know where scientific information can be found about the relationship between ET and short term memory loss? It is mentioned in passing on sites like wikipedia, but without citation and further documentation.

Nothing was hurting or anything so I just brushed it off. Well today my butthole hurts and when I wiped again it was bloody but there was hardly any blood at all. Could this be a hemorroid?

The ER doctors said the hand doctor would probably repair the finger with a steel pin. Called hand doctor for an appointment. Earliest he can see me is two weeks. Is it okay to let a broken finger, that probably will need a steel pin, go for 14 days?

occasionally there is a problem and I am told that some veins have a "valve" (I think that's what they said) that restricts and prevents the needle from entering.

Why does this happen and why are most doctors and nurses really good about it and try another vein, whereas occasionally there is a less than gentle doctor who forces the needle past the restiction.

It hurts like hell, both to have the infusion and then for 2 weeks after with swelling and bruising.

What can I say to the next doctor about it, because obviously, I won't know in advance if he/she will be alert to the restriction and I want to avoid another painful infusion and a fortnights worth of pain?

Contrary to popular belief, stomach ulcers are caused by H.pylori bacteria or NSAIDs, not by stress, alcohol or spicy foods.

back in october i went to the doc coz my wrist was swollen, it hurt like hell and I couldnt move it. He prescribed me NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs). I took them for about a week, two/three times a day.

At the end of november my stomach started to hurt everytime I ate. I would have two bites and felt full. I wasn't eating anything that I wasn't use to.

How can I tell (without blood test or any kind of test) if the ulcer was caused by the H.pylori bacteria or by the NSAIDs i was prescribed for my wrist?

I have looked at quite a few articles about PKU, and I am very curious. For the last 9 years (I am 24) I have tried to avoid anything with phenylalanine in the ingredients because I began to have allergic reactions when consuming those products. My specific symptoms are, tongue/throat swelling (tongue will crack open, very sore), skin rashes during and after perspiration, have also had loss of consciousness after excercising. Have also noticed similar symptoms with red dye (food coloring). Another possible item of interest may be that it seems that I didn't have these symptoms at all until I started weight lifting at around 16 yrs old, and took all kinds of amino acids, and protein supplements. If anyone has any advice, I'd love to hear it.
Thanks,
David
