It is a disease that is passed on to children through DNA.. basically your risk of getting it is higher if someone in your family has the disease.

I was in the middle of answering this when yahoo sent me back to the last question!!!! It's something which runs in your family. It's not usually the disease itself, but a susceptibility for the disease.

The word comes from inherit. You can inherit from someone's will, or you can inherit a tendency where certain traits are more likely to occur than in the general population. Doesn't say you'll get it, but the possibility is there. I believe it's in the genes, such as you inherit your skin color, eye color, etc.
