Last year when my daughter was ten months old she received her first dose of the flu shot (a series of 2). Roughly a week or two later after getting the flu shot, she developed a high fever and the doctors concluded she had neutropenia. Her neutrophil levels were so low that she was hospitilized for a couple of days. It took five months for her count to return to a normal level. She has not had an episode since. They think it was autoimmune. Her doctor wants to give her a flu shot again and I have declined. Am I putting my daughter at a higher risk by not getting it. I am also leary about getting the chicken pox immunization. Are there any doctors or nurses out there that can help me out. Thanks in advance.

Many of the current "killers" like cancer and heart disease are the products of longer lifespans, but with hygience and nutrition we've beat out a lot of diseases. In a crisis (a lack of services like hurricane Katrina, or other breakdown) what diseases would be the biggest threat? What diseases are prevalent, but currently well managed?
Starting to ramble... any info appreciated!

I was sitting in the bus yesterday and a guy walked pass my left side and bumped his bag on my left arm pretty hard. I felt a sharp object that scratched my arm. I had a look and it started to bleed.

When the bus stopped, I walked up to the guy and ask him to show me what was in his bag and I immediately noticed some sharp object sticking out of the fabric of the bag.

He then pulled out a book out of his bag and I can see the metal book binder sticking out.

My question is should i get a tetnus shot? I have a vague feeling that he did it purposely but he did apologize. What is the chance of catching Hep C or other diseases if he did in fact hurt someone else with the metal before me?

Please advice

Okay I have never had sex or for that matter even kissed a girl (or a guy since I'm not gay). Besides sexual relations, transfusions, breast feeding & all that is it possible 2 get HIV from sitting on a toilet or any other STDS? I'm pretty much a hypochondriac so i have another question. I was playing basketball earlier so I was playing with a ball that many people were touching, so I probably had a lot of germs on my hands & what not. I also shook hands with people afterward. I came home & I had 2 take a **** really bad, but I was also very constipated so when i am constipated I take a piece of toilet paper & stick it up my *** like a makeshift laxative. As disgusting as this sounds my finger may have slipped out of this shield & made skin to skin contact with my asshole. Could the germs (possibly the HIV virus) from the basketball game that were on my hands & from touching door handles be transmitted inside my *** when my finger touched it by accident? Basically can I get HIV or STDS

I am typing a paper that has a main focus on the body's natural reaction to bacteria or a virius. What I can't remember is rather or not the production of mucus as a way to rid the body of bacteria would be apart of the lymphatic system, since the lymphatic system does infact deal with mainly all other matter of desposing of bacterium.

Why do you think the government and the drug makers push these so hard. For the next few months you can almost expect a flu vaccine commercial or spot on the nightly news on a daily basis. Do you even know what is in the vaccine? Why don't vaccines have an ingredient list for all to see before they get the jab? Could it be that if you KNEW what was in there, you would not get in line for one? I personally do not want to inject Mercury or formaldehyde and other known carcinogens into my body and am amazed that people line up for it! What are your thoughts?

My dad is ill, very ill. He's having liver failure. I just found this out today. At first i thought my mom said kidney .. so i started doing some research and decided to donate a kidney if i was able to.

When i talked to him i went ahead and told him i wanted to take a test to see if i was a good enough match.

Then he told me it was his liver, not kidney, and he would have to stay on the waiting list .. until someone passed away, bad car accident, ect.

Is this true or can i still, maybe, donate 1/2 of my liver?

Any info would be great!

My tonsils swelled up about 2 weeks ago. The doctor said it wasn't strep or mono. It went away after 4-5 days. Now its back again, but worse. I've had it for 3 days now and it plugs up my nose, extremely painful to swallow (it was like that last time), nad a clot of phlegm. Do you think I have tonsilitis? Also, I smoke cigarettes...would that be a cause? And in the past 2 months I have "messed around" with 6 girls and had sex with one not even a week ago.

Hi y'all,
I still wish someone really could lay on the details on how exactly HIV virus a.k.a. AIDS can be transfered through oral sex:
1.) if the female has HIV/AIDS and giving her male partners a fellatio/oral sex without condom, can this transfer it?
2.) if the female has HIV/AIDS and kissing her male partners, can this transfer it?
It's vice versa for the male too, can these transfer it?

I was told I have strep throat, I'm on antibiotics. I am still fevering badly, I woke up this morning completely drentched again in sweat, my clothing all wet and my bed sheets, is this normal when breaking a fever? It usually happens about 2 - 3 hours after taking tylenol or advil. Is it safe to do it for days?

I accidently ripped out my belly button piercing. It's not bleeding anymore, it didn't bleed too much at all but it looks like it may be infected. It's red around it and kinda greenish where it is ripped.
I have been putting peroxide on it to clean it out and using neosporin. My friend saw it and said I should go to the hospital. I don't think it's that serious but at least should I go and get a tetanus shot?

A girl recently died from meningitis in my city. I have a few questions:
1. Is it contagious through sneezing(like a cold or strep throat) or through blood or saliva (like AIDS or Mono)?
2. Is it bacterial or viral?
3. Are there ways to prevent it besides a shot?
4. Should I get an immunization shot for it?
