My tonsils swelled up about 2 weeks ago. The doctor said it wasn't strep or mono. It went away after 4-5 days. Now its back again, but worse. I've had it for 3 days now and it plugs up my nose, extremely painful to swallow (it was like that last time), nad a clot of phlegm. Do you think I have tonsilitis? Also, I smoke cigarettes...would that be a cause? And in the past 2 months I have "messed around" with 6 girls and had sex with one not even a week ago.

It is probably due to seasonal allergies. My tonsils always give me trouble around this time of year. In fact, I have this one tonsil that is always enlarged significantly, whether it hurts or not. I went to a doctor about it, and he even stuck one of those long camera wires down my throat to look at it on a TV screen, and he said it wasn't strep or mono or cancer or anything, but he did recommend that I get my tonsils removed if they give me any chronic trouble. I'm not a huge fan of surgery, and I really love to sing and I'm worried that the lack of my tonsils could affect my singing voice, so I'm keeping them in there, but it does seem to help to pop some over-the-counter allergy meds like Benadryl.
